Chapter 40

Ilana knew her time was running out. But she couldn't understand her reluctance to leave the planet that had caused her so much pain. Though they didn't even know why she hated this place that much. She had kept it a secret about what had happened to her planet two years ago from both her uncles and her team. However today she was excited that she finally could go to Metropolis for a while. She loved staying in Gotham with Bruce but she needed to see her friends Jimmy again. This time she had Dick with her so that no one would worry too much about her. They were all still worried about her even though Ian was with her this time around. They were now taking the elevator up to where she worked and when she arrived she was warmly welcomed.
"Yo! Ilana, Ian, glad you could make it," Jimmy said.
He came over to us excitedly with his bag and coat. We were going out for lunch at a restaurant Jimmy had recommended. 
"I'm so excited! I haven't been in Metropolis in ages because everyone is still worried about me," Ilana said.
"Why wouldn't we be when you were held hostage by a maniac and was practically in a coma for almost a week!"Jimmy exclaimed.
"Well I got out just fine thanks. I have Ian with me now in any case," she said.
"Yeah. But I was surprised when I heard you have a twin Ilana. Do you have any other siblings?" Jimmy asked innocently. Ilana visibly flinched, Ian clenched his fist and Dick noticed their discomfort.
"Yes. We had an elder sister and a younger brother," Ian explained.
The dark expression on his face made neither DIck nor Jimmy inquire as to why that sentence had been in the past tense. 
"Shall we get going?"Ilana asked as cheerfully as she could manage.
"Yup, let's get going,"Jimmy said. 
He yelled back into the news room a quick farewell before ushering all of them back into the elevator. Ilana clinged to Ian's arm and he whispered something into her ear. Whatever he said made her relax, and her grip became a bit looser. She felt the elevator clunk as it reached the bottom floor and they walked out and onto the bustling streets of Metropolis. Ian kept a protective arm around her the entire time as they waited for a taxi to pull up to take them to the restaurant. It was a short drive, but long enough to give both the twins motion sickness. Too dizzy to orient herself Jimmy instinctively grabbed her hand and rested it in the nook of his arm, guiding her to the table they had booked. After sitting for a while the dizziness faded and she could finally sense what was going on around her. She felt out everyone in the place and her mind's eye paused on a specific individual. His heart was racing, his palms were sweaty and he was as jumpy as a frightened rabbit. This man was planning something. But for the life of her should could not figure out who he was. Carefully she called her brother to her and whispered in his ear that the man was no good news. She told him he had something metal, likely a gun, on his person. Ian nodded, quickly excused himself from the table and went to make a phone call. Ilana could here her uncle Bruce's rough voice on the other side. As soon as Ian put the phone down Dick's watch beeped. As if this was a signal the man decided to make his move. He grabbed the closest person to him and pointed a gun to the hostages head.
"Everybody freeze!" he yelled. 
The poor hostage struggled in his arms. And that poor hostage turned out to be none other than Jimmy Olsen.
