If you wanna do anything in Minecraft, you better have a plan... otherwise, it'll be obvious that you took these two plans and fused them together to see what you got... welp, that'd be creative mode for beginners... on survival, you gotta be ready for anything, you see a creeper, immediately bust out your bow. A spider ambushed you? Take out your sword... on the PC you got the mouse in hand, and that's ALOT easier than moving a joystick to a default speed... even if you toon up the sensitivity, or use the D-pad, there is still a nice big delay on your inventory screen... so what's the best way to organize yourself?
Well, I'm not gonna say this is the BEST, but the most efficient to me, at least. With this method of organization, with all your equipment on your right, do to the game's code, when you collect an item, it places it on your hot-bar, from left to right. So all items are separated from your tools. And since there's many things to do in Minecraft, there's ways to change and optimize that type of settings, such as: Casual [above]
: Battle mode
And: Mining stile
This way, all you have to do is press Y and left on your D-pad, almost at the same time, and your right on your sword, ready to switch to your bow and vise-versa. [the same thing with your other tools. It took ME less than two hours to get used to this setup and do it by instinct, so you'll be fine]
NOTE: notice the Blue Wool on top of the Axe, that's something that you can replace with any other tool, depending on what you'll do. Such as: Hoe, Shears, Flint&Steel, Water Bucket, and whatever you want, as these are just sugestions.
