Once we were 7 years old.
The rosy cheeked girl brushed her hair out of her face and sent a smile to the boy beside her.
She pulled out a piece of paper, wrote on it and handed it to him.
Will u b my friend?
Check yes or no:
Yes[ ] No[ ]
The boy blushed and wrote on the paper.
"Um, you're n-new right? I'm Peter."
She grabbed the paper from his outstretched hand.
Yes [×]
She smiled.
"I'm Wendy."

Once we were 10 years old.
"Eugene! Let go of Peter!"
The girl yelled at the boy holding her smaller friend up against a tree by the playground.
"Wendy, you're going to get hurt. Please leave!"
Her friend begged.
"What will you do about it Miss.Priss? I'm 11 and you're 10 and a girl!"
The pushed up her sleeves.
"How about this!"
And socked him right in the nose.

Once we were 12 years old.
"Psst. Peter, is he looking?"
The girl twirled a piece of of her newly curled hair.
The boy looked across the cafeteria to see her crush not even slightly looking her direction.
He sadly looked backed to her hopeful face and realized he didn't want to hurt her feelings.
"Yeah. Yeah he his."

Once we were 15 years old.
"It's okay. It's okay."
They sat in her living room as she buried her crying face in his shoulder as he comfortingly patted her back.
"I can't believe I actually thought I loved him. Then he goes and starts m-making out with J-Jenifer of all people."
It pained him to see her like this.
She didn't deserve to be treated like that.
He knew that he wanted her to understand that he would love her and not ever break her heart.
"It's okay Wendy it's only your first breakup. He wasn't even worth it. The right one will eventually come. How about we eat some ice cream and watch a whole bunch of Disney movies?"
Her sobs turn to sniffles as she slowly lifts her head to look at him.
"Even Peter Pan?"
"Especially Peter Pan."

Once we were 16 years old.
"Gwen, I don't understand how he can like her. This date is going to end horrifically. She's so infuriating!
All Mary Jane is going to do is break his heart."
Her blonde friend smirked.
"Sounds like somebody's jealous. . ."
"I am not! Peter is just my friend! I just don't want to see her hurt him."
Gwen saw the jealousy in her usually calm friend's eyes and knew Wendy wasn't being exactly 100% truthful.
Deep down, Wendy knew she wasn't being completely honest either.
