Step One: Sketch out the basic curve of the wing.

Step Two: Sketch out the inner feathers and add more detail to the wing.

Step Three: Add the outer feathers to complete the wing.

Now, for the folded wing!
Once again, sketch out the basic shape.

Then add the inner feathers.

Lastly, there are the closed wings.
Start with a basic teardrop shape with a pointed end. Note how the end curves upwards.

Secondly, sketch out the inner feathers. I usually have them hang over the edge of our teardrop shape for detail.
