All rights go to the amazing mind that is Cassandra Clare for all the characters in this story. This chapter carries on straight from the last.

Clary's POV

"Guess I'm a nice guy." Jace said smirking.

"This is serious Jace. I've kept this secret my whole life, I can't risk it getting out. So when you say you won't tell anyone, do you mean it?" His face now turned serious too.

"Yes, I do mean it."

"Fine." I said standing up. "I guess I'll stay in New York for a bit."

"Okay. On to other matters, I never actually said... thanks for... You know." I smirked.

"What? For me saving your ass? Well say it then."

"Thanks." He gritted out.

"That'll do." I said still smirking. "You and your pride. I barely know you and I can see it weighs heavy on you." I paused as I saw an open window on the other side of the room. "Anyway, I better be off." I said walking over to it.

"Already? Isabelle won't be happy." He said looking down then back up at me. There was a look in his eyes I couldn't quiet understand. I wasn't sure of the emotion. Maybe disappointment? I dismissed it.

"Why is that?" I asked.

"She's happy there's a new girl around. Guess she wants to be friends." He laughed.

"Like I said when I first met you lot, I'm not looking for any new mates."

"And why is that?" He said using my wording. It was the first time I actually noticed that he had the same sort of accent as me, although we were in America, we both spoke with English accents. I didn't really notice before. His sounded faded, like he's been in New York for a while. My accent came from my father. We lived in Idris of course but I didn't see anyone but my father really and so I picked it up from him. I also spent a great deal of time in England during my childhood if we wasn't in Idris. I guess someone will ask about it soon enough.

"I work better alone. And because I don't get close to others, it's dangerous for me." I paused turning back to face the window, whilst now putting on my floor length jacket. "Anyway, enough questions. And just a heads up, the demons from today said they were going to Pandemonium tonight. I was going to listen in more but you all charged in before I could. Be more careful next time, you could have all been killed. You acted rashly and didn't plan ahead. Anyway, I don't know if they'll still be going now cause some got away and they might have thought we were listening in. But it's worth going to check it out." I jumped up on the window ledge and crouched on it. "I'm trusting you with my secret, Jace. But I'll be watching." I said before I jumped out the second story window. I landed swiftly on my feet and walked over to my bike. I swung my leg over and started the engine. I looked back to the window I jumped from and saw Jace, Isabelle and Alec staring out of it. I turned back round and drove away. It wasn't until I got back to the building that I realised I must have been hurt in the fight as I noticed I too had a some scratches on my stomach. I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed before as now it had started to hurt and it was bleeding a lot. I patched it up but it continued to bleed through the bandages. I took the bandage off and decided that it was deep enough to need to stitch the wound up. Sometimes I just liked to feel the pain and heal the mundane way. My father had said sometimes it was good to feel the pain of your wounds to remind yourself that pain was always there, that it couldn't always be taken away. He said using a stele for minor injuries was like trying to take life's pain away and so I didn't use one unless I was badly hurt. I put the bandage back over my wound.
