The Alarm on Patrick's Blackberry 3000 rang, interrupting Patrick and Emilee's breakfast at a small contemporary café in Hollywood. He glanced at the screen realizing it was an appointment on his calendar. "9:30 AM Meeting at Warner Brothers, Burbank." Patrick quickly looked at his watch, it was a little after 8. "Shit," he accidently said loudly. The woman seated behind him with her three children shot him a dirty look. Emilee burst into laughter, her slightly messy caramel hair moving freely.
Before they were finished Patrick put an end to their breakfast. Emilee watched out the window of his expensive car as he paced back and forth. He had his phone pressed against his ear, whoever he was calling wasn't picking up. She nervously looked around, wishing he would explain things better to her. She heard Patrick mumble loudly and then open the car door sitting down aggressively, "I'm sorry," he said softly, "I have a meeting and I'm not sure what to do with you. I tried to call a nanny but she wasn't picking up..." as he peeled quickly out of the parking lot he had another idea. He hadn't seen her in a few years, since he had made a special guest star appearance on the series finale of her hit television show but he was almost positive she lived in the same place.
He sped quickly down Los Feliz blvd and made a sharp left turn onto her street. Patrick pulled up to the gate and buzzed the security system several times, "Hello?" a familiar female voice answered. He looked up and into the camera, "Kate!"
"Patrick?" Kate Walsh's tone of voice rose with surprise. The gate opened and as Patrick got back in his car to pull in, she appeared in the doorway. Her brilliant red hair shiny in the sunlight. "Patrick Dempsey, what the hell are you doing here?" She walked out to greet him happily in the drive way.
He hugged her tightly, "I just couldn't stay away from you."
She looked at him nostalgically, "You haven't changed a bit," she smiled brightly, "a little grayer," she touched his perfect hair, "but other than that we could still be on the Grey's set. So are you back in town for good?" Kate Walsh's question trailed off, unanswered as someone appeared by Patrick's feet, "Well hello there..." Kate looked up at Patrick confused, "that's not Tallulah.."
"No," Patrick shook his head, "Kate, I need a favor."
Kate looked back at the little girl kindly and then to Patrick,"Sure," she nodded, "anything! I've missed your gorgeousness too much to turn ya down."
Patrick smiled unable to resist Kate's familiar flattery. He paused with a sigh, "Can you watch her?"
"Uhh-," Kate hesitated, "I have to be at work in 25 minutes."
"Please, I have a meeting at Warner Brother's with the other producers of my new film in a half an hour." The McDreamy eyes started to pop out and beg her.
"Patrick I can't," Kate said still resisting his gorgous eyes.
"Kate, I'm begging you." His expression had changed now. It was clear that he was struggling with something.
"What am I suppose to do just take her on set with me?" Kate asked jokingly wanting to help him but knowing she couldn't.
"If I had any other options I wouldn't have come," Patrick had a surrendering tone in his voice.
"I wouldn't even be able to watch her. I'd be filming half the time." Kate glanced to the little girl hovering uncomfortably at Patrick's side.
"I promise I won't cause you any trouble miss..." Emilee trailed off not knowing what to call the red headed woman in front of her.
Kate looked into Emilee's eyes for the first time. The green sparkle was bizarrely familiar. Her sweet perfect face looked tortured, like she had been through a war. Kate tapped her foot anxiously wanting desperately to be stronger than she was. She sighed, "It's Kate," and extended her hand to the little girl. Emilee hesitantly took it. Kate crouched down next to her, "Do you like the circus?" Emilee smiled, Kate shot a questioning look at Patrick after she saw Emilee's smile.
"Yes, Kate I love the circus," Emilee said maturely.
"Good," Kate looked back down at her, "the scene I'm filming today is at a circus. It's funny; I think you'll like it." Kate smoothed the girl's frazzled hair out of her face. "I have a couple doggies inside why don't you go play with them for a minute."
"Oh kay," Emilee said softly and turned to look at Patrick, "Goodbye Patrick."
Patrick felt as if he should hug her goodbye but it felt strange, forced. He didn't even know her. He watched as she padded slowly into Kate's house. "I don't know how to thank you..."
"Uh huh," Kate said suspecting something, "we are going to talk about this later though right?"
"Yes," he said kissing her on the cheek, "I promise," he shouted as he ran off to his car.
