Hiccup's eyes darted around, searching for Toothless and a way out of this mess. He wanted to see this new species, but he might end up having to steal this egg. That's exactly what he doesn't want to do. He set the egg down slowly, standing up again and putting his hands up.
"Easy... Nice dragon..." He said nervously, walking forward inch by inch so to not show any signs of aggression. Making it seem like he was challenging this dragon would be awful. Plus, Toothless wouldn't be here to help this time. The mother dragon curled her tail, her nostrils glowing.
Hiccup realized what she was about to do and jumped out of the way just in time, blue fire burning his previous spot. His brown hair was covered in dirt and dust from his landing, and his eyes were blurring from hitting his head. Glancing up at the dragon, he left his eyes on hers as he got to his feet.
Inching forward once more, the dragon began to stare at him, her eyes no longer lingering with the tint of aggression. They rather had a foggy look sprinkled with confusion. Alright... She's unsure of me being a threat now... He thought, thankful that she possibly no longer viewed him as an enemy.
He neared her, the dragon landing and actually much smaller up close that she appeared to be from where Hiccup previously stood. She was now in reach, and Hiccup's heart was beating fast. This dragon isn't easy to predict... He thought as he reached out a shaking hand to her.
The dragon questioned him, her head turning to the side like Toothless's sometimes. Her eyes unclouded, released from the fog of confusion and showing kindness. Hiccup was shocked. This is weird...
She walked passed Hiccup and to a bush, that Hiccup just now noticed was larger than normal and looked like it was put there. Her tail swept the bush aside, and Toothless was laying in it's place. The black dragon's eyes were closed and breathing was slow, as if he was sleeping. Hiccup walked over, definitely weirded out by this.
"Toothless....? What are you doin', bud?" He said, barely holding back laughter.
