[ LOVE ]

They sat on the rooftop, ready to watch the sunset. She was fixing her hair and her glasses, and he stared at her.

He thought she was the prettiest girl in the world.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked her.

"You just did." She answered.

"Okay, can I ask you something else?" He asked again, after laughing.

"You just did it again." She said finishing her high ponytail.

"Come on, Mal." He said.

"What?" She smiled.

He loved her smile. He thought that her smile was brighter than a lightbulb, if that even made sense.

"Have you ever looked at a person and felt like you should be together forever?" He was hoping she'd say yes.

"That's a little bit obsessive, but maybe." She said looking directly into his eyes.

"I have." He said then looked at the sunset.

"Who? If I may know." She asked.

"A girl." She stared at him, and he laughed.

They kept on talking until the night fell. The stars were above them, and the heat of Los Angeles was wrapped around them.

"Malia, I need to tell you something."

"Woah, you never use my full name. What's up?"

"I......no, forget it. It's silly."

"Just say it, come on."

"Okay. I don't want anything to change between us after this, because you are my best friend and I don't want to lose you."

"Just get to it, cheeks."

"Mal, I think I'm in love with you." He admitted. He had been waiting to say that for nine months.

"Wh...what?" She asked in disbelief.

He leaned in for a kiss. It was the moment he had been waiting for his entire life. But she wasn't.

She backed off, and he noticed she didn't feel the same way.

"I'm....I'm so sorry."  He said then ran off the rooftop.

"Sean! Wait!" She ran after him but he was faster.

Maybe that's the way love works. Maybe heartbreak comes first.
