Hi! Welcome to No Man's Sky, the novel. I know No Man's Sky has a kind of storyline but this doesn't really have anything to do with that, sorry :(
Anyway, it's a kind of sci-fi story where the world has advanced to space travel because of aliens giving us technology :) (thanks aliens)
Many different kinds of people and aliens travel the galaxy, explorers, outlaws, traders, refugees etc. The 'space police' are the S.E.R (Stellar Enforcement of Regulations). Criminals mock them calling them 'SER' (sir)
Sorry if it doesn't really live up to what you expected with No Man's Sky, but it's more of an original story than anything. Just got the inspiration, some planets and cover from the game.
