Toby's heavy eyelids opened to see Brian staring deeply into the patterned hotel ceiling above. He yawned, slightly turning his head to look out the window. The sun was just peaking out, it was barely any reasonable time to be awake yet.

Rain began to drizzle softly hitting the glass and casting an intricate show of shadows across the room.
He turned his head back to Brian, burying his sleepy face into his shoulder and snuggling his arm like a teddy bear. "Can't sleep?" Toby asked against Brian's body. His eyes began to fall again, being lulled to sleep by his lover's warmth.

Brian hesitated, he didn't want to bother Toby so early in the morning, then again if he didn't talk about it he might never fall asleep again.

"I dreamed about that..." His voice was raspy and his tongue felt like sandpaper. He cleared his throat and took a deep breath. "I dreamed about that thing again."

Toby's body tensed and his eyes snapped open. His shoulder twitched as he allowed his mind to freeze from the disconcerting topic.
Brian's hard face fell soft, he knew he shouldn't of brought it up. Especially after Toby had just begun to take the medication.

He shifted his body to meet Toby's blank stare. He pulled his arm over Toby's body and pulled him close protectively, smoothing his hand over his back in comforting circles. His shoulder jerked once more.

"Forget what I said," He mumbled. "It was just a bad dream, nothing real or harmful."

The musky smell of Brian's sweatshirt tugged Toby from his statue-like state. His eyes continued to look off in the distance as he spoke again.

"Sometimes I still see it. I don't say when I do, but I still see it sometimes. I can still hear it too. I can hear that god awful static, that screeching noise like after you leave the VCR on for too long." Toby's words dug deep into Brian's chest. Here he was being stuck on some silly dreams, while Toby was left tormented and Brian didn't even care to notice.

"And sometimes," Toby's lip quivered as his misty eyes squinted shut. He took his sleeve and wiped the snot from his nose. "I'll hear its stupid voice taunting me. Calling out my name, my sister's name, your name..." His breath shook as he tried to control the coming sobs from his lumpy throat.

Brian only held Toby tighter, guilt and worry jabbing like spears at every part of him. Why couldn't he have just kept his damned self quiet?

He cupped his hands over Toby's cheeks now, placing Toby's burning forehead against his own. He closed his eyes and shared a few quiet breaths with him.

"Toby, " He quietly spoke, as if worried to wake the room itself. "I don't know if this will help at all, but I'm here now and I promised that I'd help you get away from that thing. I'll help you protect yourself, no matter what, some stupid ass phenomenon isn't going to keep me from breaking that promise." He pulled his head back and looked deeply into Toby's detailed eyes. He smoothed his thumb below the corner of Toby's eye, brushing away a tear. "I'm here, I'm real, you can feel me. That thing? As long as we take the medication, nothing can even come close to us. Got it?" He tugged a small grin.

Toby nodded, his twitching subsiding a bit more from Brian's speech. He sniffed and closed his eyes again, even more worn out from crying. He could hear the rain fall harder now, pounding against the pavement like a hundred tiny war drums outside.

"Thank you," Toby murmured, "I love you." Brian watched over Toby as his chest rose and fell into a steady sleeping pattern. He pulled the covers tightly over the top of them and leaned his head against the boy's.

"I love you, too," He said before falling asleep.
