Lockdown
1:17pm
After my little mental-pep-rally-talk I decided to... Uh... Check out the perimeter. I made my way to the checkout counter. I found a yardstick the librarian used to measure posters and papers and shelves and stuff like that. That served as my cane.
Then, I headed towards the windows.
And I know what you're thinking. Why didn't she go to the windows earlier or something? Well, let me ask you. Have you ever been in a school full of crazy shooters and watched your friends and teachers get shot to death? Have you seen your best friend's body next to you and realized you could do nothing to help them?
So stop.
Anyway. The windows were in front of the computers. About 4' by 3', fairly small and there were two of them. They weren't too high up on the ceiling or anything so I was able to reach them. There was no emergency exit door or anything, so I couldn't go out there.
I went to the first window. Apparently there wasn't any lock or anything to open it. This looked like one of those windows that just sat there for looks. You just looked out of it- but you couldn't open it.
It was the same with the other window.
I guess that was a stupid thing to do- look out the windows and try and find a way to open them.
Because the next thing I knew a loud BOOM echoed throughout my ears and the window shattered in front of me and I was on the ground, screaming, and my shoulder felt like a chainsaw had just ripped through it and I saw red, red and more red.
