I walk into the cold church, holding my Dad's hand. I could see in his eyes that he didn't want to be here. As we approach the coffin, heads turn in pity. My brothers waited outside, wanting this to be over. I insisted on going. I could never understand why they all hated her. My last memory of her was just before she left. She told me I was her princess and that she was so proud of who I was becoming. Then I came home one day and she was gone.
"You don't need her, Madison, she's a waste of space" my brother would tell me.
"She never loved you" my Dad says.
But as I looked over her body, I forgot everything they told me and I broke down. My Dad picked me up and carried me out. That was the last time I ever saw her. That was the last time I ever spoke of her.
