Who was the one that brought all that peril upon Crystallia? What caused my parents to hate each other so much? Why the hell would they just leave their planet like that? Why didn't Jemica tell me about all this sooner?

"Katie." Nicole tapped Katie's shoulder. "Katie!"

She snapped out of her daze to see Nicole waving a hand in front of her face. "Magix to Katie! Are you alright? You seem really out of it."

"No, no, I'm fine," Katie said. She paused to take in a spoonful of oatmeal, then continued. "Just really... confused."

A short silence passed before Vy decided to say something. "Hey, I know we all basically just met and all, but, if you need someone to talk to, we're here."

"Thanks," Katie smiled, but her lips were quickly drawn back down into a frown. "But I really need some time to just sit and think."

From the table to the right, Seelia noticed Katie's sulking and smirked. "Hey, what's wrong? Do you miss your mommy that much?" This remark earned snickers from the two girls sitting at her sides. Tears threatened to run as Katie fought the urge to call back, "Yes I do, because she's DEAD!"

"Just ignore her," Nicole said, her right hand clenched into a fist. I swear when I get my hands on her...

Suddenly the bell rang once more, bringing breakfast time to a halt. All Katie felt like doing was to go back to her room and sleep. She wasn't tired--it was rather the invisible rain cloud of stress looming over her that made her want to sleep away her problems. With a moan, she took her class schedule out of the left pocket on her jeans and read it. "I have Battle and Defense next. Just my luck; we just finished breakfast and I already have to exercise."

Without any other words, she stood up from her seat and walked off as her new friends exchanged concerned glances at each other.

The day seemed to drag on endlessly. But soon enough, classes finally wrapped up for the day at 3:00 PM. After wounding up lost together in Alfea's corridors for almost five minutes, Katie and Nicole dragged themselves back to their dorm room and collapsed onto their beds.

Their first day at Alfea was surprisingly exhausting. This reminded Katie of how on some Fridays after school, she, Josh, and Michael would go out to get ice-cream and then afterwards, sit around at Michael's house playing video games.

A torrent of mixed feelings such as nostalgia, sadness, and stomach butterflies suddebly ran through her. Katie longed to see her twin brother and her best friend again, even though it had only been about a day since the three parted ways. But a strange feeling took her over whenever she thought about Michael and it seemed almost indescribable. It was a feeling she had gotten for ages it seemed like. And that feeling had intensified since the hug she shared with Michael in the forest. Katie gasped.

Oh God, she thought to herself. I have a crush on him!

"What?" Nicole heard Katie's gasp. "You okay?"

"No," Katie shot up and replied. "I have a crush on my best friend!"

"What's wrong with that?" Nicole asked.
~
"Everything!" Michael put his hands on his forehead. "What if Katie doesn't like me back? What if she rejects me and doesn't want to be friends anymore? What if--"

"You're overreacting," Josh put an arm around Michael's shoulder. "I'm sure she'll love you. She wouldn't reject a guy like you."

"But I don't want her to 'pity like' me," Michael said. "I want this to be real."
~
"Oh come on," Nicole said. "You worry to much."

"You'll be fine!" Nicole and Josh said simultaneously.

The two fairies sat in silence for a few moments.

"Thanks, I needed that," Katie smiled.

"No problem," Nicole replied. "Hey, we should start our homework now."

With a sigh, Katie agreed and the two prepared to practice their spells.
