Trust me

You drove up the mountain, heading toward Snowbunny, the place you were always impatient to go to as a child. But only as a child. Nowadays, going down a hill just to climb back up seemed redundant. Bill was enjoying his time trying to find a radio station he deemed "decent."

"Nothing good is on the radio!" he whined, turning the knob that controls the stations.

You sighed and tapped on your phone that was attached magnetically to a pole-like thing attached to your windshield. You pulled up a station on your radio titled, "We'll Meet Again (and more)." It took your phone a moment to load due to the cruddy reception out on the snow covered mountain, but it loaded all the same. Soon the first song- fatefully titled "We'll Meet Again-" began to play with a quiet piano.

As soon as the first word was uttered out of the singer's mouth, Bill began to sing along, matching every note perfectly, despite his high voice. You, on the other hand, were humming along quietly, listening to Bill. He's a pretty good singer... you thought to yourself, keeping an eye on the road.

"Thanks!" Bill said with a smile when the song stopped.

You glanced over. "Eh? Did I say that out loud?" you asked, confusion written on your expression.

Bill suddenly looked as though he had made a huge mistake. He glanced to the side before answering you, "Uh, y-yeah!"

You turned back to the road. "Hm. Guess I was lost in my own thought for a moment there. Oh well. We're here now!" you said, pulling into the relatively empty parking lot. There were two other cars, and the inhabitants of those cars were sledding their children down the steep slope.

Bill climbed out of the truck and flopped onto the ground, the snow slowly beginning to melt. You giggled a little.

"Too... hot..." Bill whined, pushing himself up off the ground.

"Just give it a minute in the snow and you'll be a human popsicle," you told him. You grabbed the sleds and started to walk past the steep hill to the small hiking trip.

Bill waddled after you, but flopped on the sleds instead. You rolled your eyes and gave a playful sigh, dragging Bill along with the sleds. Soon you reached a pretty steep hill and you let go of the sleds.

You shoved Bill off the sled. Bill whined. "You wanted to go sledding, didn't you? Come on!" you exclaimed, pulling Bill to his feet.

Bill looked at you with a disdainful expression. But he soon gained a smirk.  He grabbed your waist, surprising you. "Well, now seems to be the time. I've been wanting to make a deal with you for a while," he said.

"A-a what...?" you asked, your face heating up.

Bill smiled and poked your nose. "I'm not gonna kiss you, if that's what you're thinking," he said, quoting you. You looked down, hiding your blushing face. Bill played with your hair for a little, but suddenly he leaned to the side and you both began to roll down the hill. You gripped onto Bill's shoulders tightly.

Soon the rolling came to a stop and you ended up on top of Bill, your face red as a cherry. Bill was a little pink as well. "W-what do you mean b-by a d-deal...?" you questioned, scrambling off of Bill.

Bill sat up and took of his hat that was about to fall off anyway. "Well, I like to make deals a lot. It's sort of how I work. But anyway..." Bill trailed off.

A guy who just walks around making deals? It sounded strange to you. What kind of deal would he even want?

"I-I don't just go around making random deals with people!" Bill exclaimed, putting his hands up to hide his embarrassed face.

"There you go again! And I know I didn't say that out loud!" you said, pointing at Bill.

"Okay, okay! I can explain! I'm a... muse. Every couple centuries I pick out some smart human and I help them. Like with that equation of yours," Bill said, sounding uncertain of himself.

"So you're like... millions of years old...?"

Bill glanced to the side and nodded. "Yup."

"But that can't be true! There's no scientific way an intelligent being can live beyond the point of human existence! You can write! And there's no evidence of written language past the point of humanity's first written language! A-" you began to go on a rant before Bill put a finger of your lips, shutting you up.

"Shush. Why don't you just look around for a split second?" Bill said, taking his finger off your lips.

You listened to him and looked around.

The gray landscape reminded you of your childhood home. Although the ocean waves stood still and the seagulls floated in mid-air. You looked behind you and saw your small ocean home.

Someone placed a hand on your shoulder and you turned around to face Bill. "Pretty nice mindscape you have in here. But, that's beside the point. About the deal, Quill..." he trailed off again.

"Come on, Bill. My entire world's been turned upside down. What is it that you want?" you persisted, ignoring Bill calling you Quill.

"I'll stick around. Stay by your side. That sort of thing. All I need is for you to trust me. Just trust me with everything you've got and don't question anything," Bill said rather quickly.

"Um... haha... wow... I just now learned you're a being that ignores every scientific law I know and you want me to trust you no questions asked?" you said, finding this really hard to believe.

"Please? You know, if I had any intention of hurting you I would have done it already."

You thought for a bit. And finally decided. "Well, if you are a muse... and you could help me... I guess so. I mean, what could you do that's untrustworthy?" you said.

"Great!" Bill exclaimed happily. He held out his hand. You grabbed it and shook it. But something strange happened.

Bill's hand erupted into blue flames, which startled you immensely. "Weird! Weird!" you exclaimed, instantly letting go of his hand. You shook your hand free of the flames and danced around, pretty scared.

Bill grabbed you by the shoulders and calmed you down. "It's okay! It's okay! It's just magic! Calm down!" he exclaimed.

You took in deep breaths, calming down. You immediately hugged Bill and buried your face into his chest, something you did to your father as a child when you woke up from a nightmare.

You didn't notice, but Bill was grinning. It wasn't because he was happy that you were hugging him, no. It was because he was glad he had gained your trust. But not for the reasons a normal person would be glad for.

A/N: SUPER SORRY about the late update! I couldn't think of anything! But thank god it's finally out, huh? This'll get so much more interesting. Don't worry!
