I looked in the mirror, examining my bruised collarbone.
"Jack!" I yelled.
I heard footsteps stomp up the stairs, followed by the bedroom door slamming against the doorstop. The bathroom door opened revealing an out of breath Jack.
"Yes?" He managed to get out.
"You left hickeys in an open area. What the hell? I thought we agreed we wouldn't do that?" I furrowed my brows.
He smiled maniacally, grabbing the collar of my shirt. He pulled it down uncovering a handful of bruises shaped into a heart along my collarbone and the skin under it.
I smiled at the sight, my anger fading into a small smile.
"That's so cute." I giggled.
"I know, that's why I did it." His response was full of cockiness.
"Get out smartass." I laughed, pushing him out of the bathroom.
"Only if you come with me." He pulled me out with him.
I shrieked as I slid across the marble floor. He lifted me over his shoulder, exiting the bathroom and heading out towards the stairs.
He held my legs close to his chest as he reached for the mahogany railing. He slowly began to step down the carpeted stairs, reaching the bottom after about 30 seconds. He set me down on one of the white barstools, walking behind the island and reaching into a random cupboard.
"What's for breakfast?" I asked, swinging my legs from side to side.
"Pancakes or French Toast?" He asked holding a loaf of bread and pancake mix out in front of him.
I pointed to the pancake mix, hopping off of the stool.
"What are you doing?" Confusion laced his voice.
"Let's be honest, if I let you cook you're going to burn down the house. So I'm cooking today." I smiled.
"Fine with me." He shrugged sitting down in the seat where I previously sat.
I sifted through his cupboards collecting the needed ingredients. I put the mix away and grabbed a giant bowl. I glanced up to see Jack's eyes glued on his phone.
I rolled my eyes pouring the flour into the bowl. I added the rest of the dry ingredients, mixing them thoroughly. I added a few eggs and a cup of water to the bowl, stirring it until it was creamy.
I took out a pan and turned on the stove. I cut a sliver of butter from the stick and put it into the now heated pan, spreading it around so the pancakes wouldn't stick.
"So, when do you go back to college?" Jack asked, catching my attention.
"Well, my mom talked to the head master and he agreed to let me come back in a week." I drifted off.
"Sorry, did you say a week? Sarah, why didn't you tell me sooner?" He grew angry.
"Because it didn't hit me until yesterday that I was leaving that soon." My voice became shaky.
"Yesterday? When did you find out?"
"Wednesday." I shrugged.
"Of last week?"
"This week." I said pouring the mix into the pan, creating two pancakes.
"You're leaving Wednesday? Sarah, it's Saturday."
"Yes, I know Jack." My tone remained calm as a tear slipped down my cheek. "And I'm spending Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with my family."
"So I won't even see you before you leave?"
"You can if you want." I flipped both pancakes not bothering to look at Jack this whole time.
"If I want? What's wrong with you, huh? One minute.-" He stopped. I heard the stool slightly skid across the floor. I looked over my shoulder to see Jack's hands covering his face.
There was a quick moment of silence and the next thing I knew Jack had flung the stool across the room, causing it to crash into the glass table that sat in the living room almost 20 feet away.
Fear struck my body causing me to jump towards the stove. Luckily, I didn't burn my hand. I rested a hand on the counter, holding my forehead with the other.
I quickly grabbed a plate and slid the pancakes onto it, turning off the stove.
"Jack.-"
"Get out." His breathing was heavy.
I obeyed his wish, sprinting up the stairs. I closed the door behind me slipping of his shirt and sliding my clothes from the day before on. I gathered my things opening the door and walking back down the stairs.
I opened the front door not bothering to say another word and headed for my car. Unlocking the door I hopped into the drivers side pushing the start button and backing out of the driveway.
With one last glance at the front door I sped off down the quiet street following the path ahead.
Where was I going? I had no idea.
