AUTUMN'S POV-
I smiled up at the sky as I laid on my back looking up at the sky. May and Carmen were talking next to me about some boy they both thought was cute in their fourth period. I closed my eyes and pushed my body more into the grass, if that was even possible. I took a deep breath soaking in every second of not being in the that place that's called my 'home'.
"Autumn, don't you have him in your sixth period?" Carmen asked and I glance at them
"Who are we talking about again?" I sat up a little bit
"Kyle Scott" May hummed and I thought for a moment
"Yea, I think so" I shrugged. I honestly never really noticed people in my classes.
"He's tall like six foot something and has dark hair, tan skin, bright brown eyes, cute smile-" Carmen went on and I rolled my eyes laying back down
"You just describe half the boys on this planet" I groaned and she hit me playfully
"No I didn't" she teases and I scoffed
"Yea, sure"
"Do you have to be home by a certain time tonight" May asked
"No, I was wondering if we could get some dinner or something" I sighed
"Well duh, we always do" May laughed

We sat around the table at May's house eating our food. Adam was gone with his friends and May wasn't sure when they were coming back, if it will be just him or them all together.
"When did you get that" Carmen asked pointing to a bruise on my arm
"Um, I'm not sure, I didn't even notice it till you just said something" I shrugged and she nodded
"How are the nuggets?" May asked Carmen
"Fucking amazing, unlike that nasty fish sandwich" Carmen smirked and May rolled her eyes making me laugh
"What do you think you got on that test we took in English" I asked looking at them
"I think I did pretty good honestly" May nodded with a small smile
"Shut the fuck up. We all know you failed" Carmen scoffed
"Well, how do you think you did?" May fought
"We all know I failed too" Carmen said in a matter-of-fact-tone
"Yea, it was kind of difficult" I nodded
"No, you always do good in English, you probably passed" May turned her head to me and I blushed
"Yea, we all know you passed, you always do" Carmen smiled
"I don't know, I had troubles with the book" I sighed
"You passed" Carmen confirmed and I shook my head
"Shut up, you're too smart to fail" May glared and I raised my hands up in defeat. We heard the front door open and many footsteps walk into the house, signaling the boys are here.
"Hey!" Tyler yelled walking into the kitchen
"Hi" Carmen replied
"What are you guys eating" Matt asked rushing in
"McDonalds" May shrugged
"Oh, did you get extra I'm starving" Matt asked with hope in his eyes
"Shut up, we literally just ate before we got here" Adam came in and smack that back of his head, Ryan followed
"Ow!" He yelled rubbing his head
"I'm gonna use the restroom" I mumbled and stood up walking down the hall. I did my business and made sure my makeup still covered the bruises on my face. When I was done I walked back out and sat back down at the table with everyone looking at me. It was very silent, I was confused "What?"
"Your dad called" May spoke holding up my phone and my eyes widened "I answered"
"Oh my god" I whispered shaking my head, I reached for my phone and she pulled it away from me
"Want to hear what he said" she asked and tears stung my eyes
"Look, I'm sorry he's probably just drank a little too much, he calls sometimes when that happens he doesn't mean those things that he says. It just some stress from work" I lied with my voice cracking at the end
"May I've never heard words like that come from a father's mouth before" Carmen frowned
"It's nothing, I swear. I'm use to it, he'll apologize in the morning or something" I continued to lie
"Stop it" Ryan spoke making us all look at him "stop trying to defend him when he's talking to you that way! No father should ever do that. Why have you been letting this happen?"
"I...I think it's time I go" I mumbled standing up and picking up my bags "sorry you guys had to hear that"
I quickly walked out of the room and I could hear footsteps behind making me speed up. Tears were streaming down my face as I walked out of the door and towards my house.
"Autumn! Please wait!" I heard someone behind me. I stopped in my tracks and waiting for the person to catch up
"What" I mumbled not moving
"You shouldn't go home..not tonight. If he's talking like that over a phone I can't imagine him in person, so please just stay and we'll take you home in the morning" I recognized the voice as Adam begging me
"No he's not home, he's usually at a bar when this happens. I'll be fine" I shook my head
"Please...let me at least give you a ride home" he suggest and I nod my head and wipe my tears before turning around and finally facing him
"Alright"
