Jim came in to class three days later.
The girl with the braces came in and sat down.
"What happened, Mr. Carson?"
Jim smiled weakly.
"Well, I watched some TV. I saw that cooking show... I can't remember what it's called. But it was good."
"Nothing else happened?"
Jim stared at her blankly.
"Well," he said, quietly, "I used to have two children, and now I have one."
He walked out of the classroom.
