My Short Career as a Horror Writer

For ELA we had to choose 1 of 7 prompts to write horror stories. I chose the third. It was: You are driving down a deserted road. You are a long way from home. As you look in the mirror, you realize there is a man you do not know in the backseat. I'm pretty sure that was it. I don't know, I wrote it from memory. Sue me. I'm not Dan Cahill. (fist bump to all those fans.)

So here it is. Remember it is most likely graded by the time I post it or you read.

As Amy drove she realized it has been a while since she had seen any cars on the road. Amy looked in the rear view mirror and froze.

There was a man in the backseat.

Amy paled as she looked straight ahead.  She thought what would those people in horror movies would do but realized that was a bad idea. Because everyone ended up... dead. Is that how she would end up to?  Amy let an involuntary whimper escape her mouth.

The man in the backseat smiled. ''Finally noticed me, have you?''  The man spoke with a gravelly voice. "Its been a long time since I got into the car. You should really lock your doors."

Amy panicked silently. She always locked her doors! But after she dropped off her friends...  she didn't lock her doors! Amy groaned and facepalmed. How could she be so stupid?!  The man chuckled.

"You should really be more careful about this stuff. You never when a stranger could hop in your car and kill you, Amy." It was official. She was going to die. She swore under her breath as she realized something else. He knew her name! That meant he knew her or this was planned.

Amy clenched her hands on the steering wheel and pressed on the accelerator gently. If they got to civilization quick enough she could run for help. "Don't try it," the man said, as though reading her thoughts. "We are a long way from civilization. Probably an hour away and by then I'll have done what I needed to do." Again Amy let out a whimper. I AM GOING TO DIE! Amy thought.

"Keep driving Amy. And turn on the radio. We are going to be here a while." Amy was to scared to say anything so she did what he said and drove into the night.

                                              :Time Skip:

Half an hour later, the man spoke up. "Would you look at that? We're here."

Amy looked around. There was nothing along the road. Just emptiness. Then Amy saw something she had missed all the times she drove by. Which reminded her that Drive By by Train was playing on the radio. Sorry, back on track. There was a small dirt path leading to a cabin.

"Pull over Ms. Cahill." Amy swore in her head. This was it. She was going to die. Amy hoped that her brother, Dan, knew basically everything it her possession now belonged to him. She also couldn't believe that after all she had been through, this was how she was going to die. This went through Amy's head as she pulled over a few yards from the dirt path.

The man leaned forward in his seat and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a glint of silver. A knife. "It's been nice knowing you, Amy Cahill." And with one quick motion he slit her throat. Her hands flew to her throat and the man got out of the car.

The blood gushed out all over her clothes. I knew I shouldn't have worn white today, Amy thought grimly. She leaned back in her seat. If she was going to die she might as well be comfortable.

As Amy succumbed to darkness, she realized she did know the man. She had met him when she came face to face with... The Vespers. With that last thought, Amy closed her eyes for the last time.

                                             The End

I know, you guys think I'm horrible I killed Amy Cahill. You know, I wonder if it's true that hardcore fans make best death threats... Any way in case you don't think I'm actually going to hand this in, I am.

If something seems off in that don't blame me. When I wrote this I only read the first 3 books in Cahills Vs Vespers series.
