"Trouble" is the closing track on Room 93, Halsey's first extended play. It is stripped because the song is a demo version featuring only vocals and piano, pulling back from further production and giving it more feeling.
In the Spotify Commentary for the EP, Halsey spoke extensively about the raw emotion behind the song:
.. Someone who takes pleasure and takes some, like, sadistic joy in making you feel bad and hurting you in a mental way. And I kinda took that and put it in physical words so you could really understand how sadistic and twisted it is to be in a relationship where someone enjoys hurting you.
A teaser clip was posted onto Halsey's VEVO on October 22nd, 2014. Halsey told a fan through Twitter that it always intended to be a mini-visual as opposed to a full-length music video.
