The journey was long, but eventually the team made it to Western Australia. Ren was asleep on Dan's shoulder, and he rested his head on hers. On the other Megan was bouncing up and down in her chair unable to sleep due to her excitment of being out in the field.
It was her first mission, and therefore told to go with Ren so that she could learn a few things. Also so that an eye could be kept on her at all times.
The Australian outback was beautiful. Vast plains spread across the surface filled with kangaroos and emus with the occasional building.
"We're here!" Megan screamed waking up everyone onboard. Ren looked out the window and at a tall red cliff with a small round door at the top. It looked like the door could only be noticed from in the ir and even then it was easy to miss. The details of the door were hard to see because it was so far away.
There were no other structes nearby and very few signs of life. 'The perfect place to hide for a wanted criminal.'
The loud speaker crackled as one of the pilotes called. "Prepare for landing."
Swiftly Megan pulled on her seatbelt, although she nearly broke it because she was still bouncing on her chair. Meanwhile, Ren slowely sat up and held onto the armrests either side of her.
"Remind me why I decided to go on a plane again." Ren kept her eyes staring at the floor and tried to take deep breaths.
Dan couldn't help but laugh, he barely ever saw this side of her and he was glad to know that she's still human. He enjoyed seeing the side of Ren that was normal, like a teenager.
The plane skimmed past dying trees and bushes until it finally collided with the ground. As soon as it came to a halt Ren leaped out of her chair, picked up her bag and walked off the plane. Racefully she jumped to the ground and took a deep breath as she scanned the area.
There's no one around in the immediate surroundings but I should probably take a look around just in case.
"Hey Dan, I'm gonna take a look around the area, scream if you need me." Dan didn't hear Ren though because he was too busy trying to help Megan out of her seat. It turns out she did infact break the seatbelt and ended up trapping herself as a result. Ren turned and began to walk away into the distance and was hidden by the few trees on the horizon.
It was a few hours before Ren finished searching the perimeter. After taking one last look at the baron plains infront of her she began the short walk back to their temporary base. A small rustle was heard in the bush next to her and she immediately leapt into action. Pulling 2 knifes from her pockets Ren began to creep forward and was about to attack before she realised what it was.
A small girl was curled up in a ball and barely moving. Her stomach rumbled and she looked pale, it was a wonder she was still alive.
"Hello?" Trying to stay calm Ren kneeled before the girl and placed a hand on her wrist. She's still alive, but barely. If she doesn't get help... Her thoughts trailed off as the frail child began to speak. Her voice was quiet and stuttered but it was enough for Ren to understand.
"Y-you m-m-mus-st g-get-t ou-ut of-f h-her-re." That was all she could manage before she collapsed onto the floor. Doing the first thing that came into her mind Ren swept up the girl and began to ran back to the camp, stopping only to pick up a photo that she noticed on the ground. Without looking at it she shoved it into her pocket and ran as fast as she could back to the plane, those 6 words ringing through her mind.
You must get out of here. What did she mean? And what is a young girl doing all the way out here by herself?
