"Love is like a lost object. If you search too hard, you won't find it. But if you forget about it momentarilly, it will show up in the most unnexpected way."

“December, studio five has two sessions today, so I’m putting you there. John already set up everything for you.” my boss Cassidy told me with a smile as I walked into the conference room of the record company I worked at. I smiled back and gave a quick nod as I grabbed the session chart, seeing who I would be helping record vocals for. The Neighborhood: 1pm to 4pm, Unknown 4:30pm to 1am.

“Cassidy, you have got be kidding me, 4:30 to 1?” I exclaimed, my eyes going wide as I read it.

“I know it’s a lot, but I also know you can handle it. You’re a night owl anyways.” I sighed, she had a point. I stared down at the chart, trying to figure out who Unknown could be.

“Cass, who’s unknown?” I questioned.

“I know as much as you do. It could be anyone, only thing I was told was to only have one tech in the room.” I held onto the chart, my mind wandering who it could be as I walked to the fridge in the back of the room. Grabbing an Arizona can out of the fridge, I walked out of the conference room, passing my best friend Kiki as she walked into the conference room.

“Hey girl” I smiled, walking down the hallway.

“Heey” she smiled back “hang after work?” she asked.

Turning around and walking backwards I answered, “Can’t, I’m stuck here till 1am” I laughed, turning back around and walking towards studio five.

“Damn it!” Kiki hollered. I waved my hand behind me dismissing her, almost dropping the studio chart.

Getting to studio five, I opened the door with my elbow and walked in, shutting the door with my foot. Setting my drink and the chart on the table behind the mixing board. Pulling out the plush black swivel chair I sat down. I span around a few times before stopping in front of the table, pulling the chart in front of me to see what I needed to turn on. Turning around over to the mixer, I turned it on and set the basic settings The Neighborhood wanted. Pulling my phone out of my black leather jacket pocket, I checked the time. 12:30pm my phone screen read, unlocking the phone, I mindlessly checked what notifications I had trying to kill time before the band got here.

I couldn’t help but think who unknown could be. I figured it might be someone kind of famous, but not too famous. I doubt anyone that famous wouldn’t come to this small town recording studio, being located in the countryside of New York. This place is so far out it takes about two hours to get to New York City.

I continued to mindlessly play with my phone until I heard the studio door open, as five men walked in, a woman who looked to me their manager trailed close behind. Getting up I introduced myself to them, learning their names; Jesse, Jeremy, Zach, Mikey, and Bryan. Their managers name was Lucy, and she explained the plans.

We talked about how they wanted the songs to sound, and then they were off, singing away in the room over, myself recording the sound and replaying it for them, seeing if anything needed to be fixed. We recorded about three songs, and then got to the last one about a half an hour before they were set to leave.

They started to record the beginning of a song but then stopped. “December, do you have any ideas for the chorus? We can’t seem to figure what to write for it and it’s the only part we don’t have.” Jesse asked. I must have looked shocked because the next thing I knew, he was walking into room. “You don’t get asked much to help do you?”

“Not really” I awkwardly laughed. I played back what they had so far, and tried to think. What could be catchy but not terribly annoying. I took off my leather jacket getting too hot from wearing a gray sweater underneath. I looked at the sweater, and started humming something.

“What?” Mikey curiously questioned from the recording booth.

“‘Cause it’s too cooooooooold, for you here and now, so let me hoooooold, both your hands in the holes of my sweater.” I quietly sang, knowing my voice wasn’t the best.

“That’s perfect!” Jesse exclaimed, as he went back in. We recorded about three different versions so they could find the one that fit best. I didn’t keep track of the time, and got scared when someone knocked on the door. Getting up as the boys were talking in the recording booth, I opened the door, my mouth dropping open. Unknown had arrived, and it was someone I could have never guessed it would be.
