Through The Dark

Chapter 1 ~Little Black Dress~

I slowly brushed through my long dark brown hair, staring at myself in the mirror. I thought brushing through my waves would make them look a little more presentable but it wasn’t working. I gave up and pinned the front half of my hair off to the side with a sparkly navy clip.

I adjusted my makeup. I wasn’t into putting on a lot of makeup but tonight was special. It was my birthday and my dad was coming home. I had a little more eye shadow on than usually, enhancing my bright blue eyes and my lips were a darker shade of pink.

Once I decided I looked presentable I got up and put on my dress. It was a short sleeve black dress that was flowy and reached the knee. There was a black satin belt around the waist with a crystal oval in the middle. I tugged on my dark red Doc Martens, not in the mood for heels. I knew I was going to get yelled at by my mom for my choice in footwear but I had to walk to the restaurant and Docs were more comfortable.

I grabbed my black coat and buttoned it up, tying the belt tightly around my small waist. I was already running late. I grabbed my phone and stuffed it into my pocket. I knew I wouldn’t need my purse tonight.

My family and I had just moved to London. Me, my brother, my mother and my father –though he was fighting in a war. Luckily he was back the night of my birthday. I hadn’t seen him in months and I found it hard to hold in my excitement of finally getting to see him.

I stuffed my hands into my pockets, it was freezing. I looked around. The street was completely deserted. That’s when I realized I had no idea where I was going. I stopped and turned around, looking the way I came. Now, was the restaurant back the way I’d come, or was it closer to the water? I continued walking, thinking it was closer to the river.

Not looking where I was going I bumped into someone, spilling the drink in their hands.

“I am so sorry!” I said, reaching out to steady him and myself. I looked up and gasped. His curly hair was dishevelled from the wind and his green eyes looked cautious, probably thinking I was going to start screaming because Harry Styles was standing right in front of me. “Are you okay?” I asked. I didn’t want him to think I was a crazed fan or anything. Which I wasn’t.

Growing up I jumped from band to band. I’d fall in love with a signer and then I’d slowly move on to a new genre of music. One Direction was just like the rest. I fell hard for all of them, listened to all their music and then got bored.

“I’m fine.” He said. I removed my hand from his arm and gave him a small smile.

“I’m really sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going and –“

“No it’s fine. Fans do that all the time. ‘Accidentally’ bump into us so they can get a picture or something.” Harry shrugged. “All you had to do was ask.” He winked. Someone’s a little cheeky.

“No, I actually wasn’t looking where I was going. I’m kind of lost.” I said looking behind me. Maybe the restaurant was back the way I came…

“So you’re not a crazed fan?” He asked. I looked back over to him. God he was even more beautiful in person. I shook my head. “Well you’re the first.” I smiled. “Where are you headed? You said you were lost.” Harry smiled back. I couldn’t take my eyes off that smile. Him and his little dimples. Not remembering the name I took out my phone and showed me the address my mom texted me. “You’re going in the wrong direction, love.” He grabbed my shoulders and spun me around. “It’s that way.”
