sometimes warmth is the coldest breath.

Meaning of this story

A reader had asked about the meaning behind this story and told them. I just copy/pasted my comment onto here for anyone who's interested in reading it:

I had this planned out as a person, either man or woman, who'd been lost from humans and was in isolation for a long period of time. During winter, they attempt to find the humanity that they've been separated from so long.

This person does end up finding other humans, and the "sometimes warmth is the coldest breath" is both a reference to winter and them finally seeing humans after such a long time. The warmth, which was to represent happiness from this stranded person finally meeting with others humans, and then the coldest breath, to represent both winter and the breathing from other humans.

To this person who's been separated from other humans so long, the breathing of this people has brought warmth to their life in the cold, brutal winter.
