Meaning of this story

I came up with this super short poem (if you could even call it that) back in grade nine when I was getting over a crush of mine. Essentially, he liked me for a bit and then I liked him. However, like most dumb high school crushes, he stopped liking me. Here's the 'poem':

She was like a bird,

too attached to the feather that she lost

because she thought it was a part of her.

This is essentially meaning that, of course, I was a bit sad when I found out he stopped liking me. I felt like I lost a bit of a part of me when this happened (which is exaggerated, but I was a hormonal 12 or 13 year old back then).

I honestly don't remember how I came up with the bird part to this poem but, to this day, I still think it turned out great. (:
