Chapter Four

A/N: This chapter will be shorter, sorry about that.

The time spent eating wasn't fun, it was silent and filled with exchanged glances, mostly by North and Bunny, quietly communicating about me just with looks. I pretended not to notice and went back to eating.

"Jack, how are you feeling?" I looked up from my plate and nodded.

"Doing better." I responded, North seemed content with my answer but Bunny didn't look too sure.

We continued to eat, but my mind raced wildly as the meal continued, I kept thinking about what Bunny's Opposite had said, my dream, and if what he said was true.

I must looked extremely pained because the next thing I knew, both North and Bunny were looking at me sympathetically, I looked up and felt tears streaming down my face.

"Jack, what's wrong?" North asked quickly, I saw Bunny reached over and lightly touched my shoulder, I flinched and stood up, my hands planted firmly on the table, still crying.

"Please excuse me." I said, as I quickly grabbed my staff and flew up to my room. Once I reached the great big wooden door I locked myself inside, I let my body slide down the door, my face buried in my hands.

"He's right." I whispered to myself.

I had been alone for so long, it seemed as if all the spirits had someone, how stupid was I to think that I could. Aster didn't like me, especially in that way, I felt my heart ache as I thought of my own foolish attempts to win his affection.

I heard soft footsteps rapidly approaching the door, Aster's.

"Jack?" He said quietly, knocking on the door.

"Im fine Aster." My voice didn't sell it though. I could hear a slight chuckle.

"Jack, please open the door."

I sighed then stood up and began unlocking the door, the first thing to greet me was Aster's big green eyes looking softly down on me.

"What's going on?" He asked, he wiped a tear away from my cheek, a show of affection I was not used to and was slightly surprised by.

"Its nothing." I said, still trying to stop my thoughts from going back to that day.

"What did he say to you?" I held my breath, I didn't want to say, but I knew I would be pressured more to talk if I didn't say anything.

"Nothing Bunny, its fine." I started to turn towards the bed when I felt Aster grab my wrist, an immediate blush crept across my cheeks,  I felt embarrassed immediately and moved away from his grasp, luckily he wasn't holding on hard enough to keep me in place.

"Jack, I know that you've been all alone for 300 years, but you can trust us." I turned to look at him, his eye's gaze falling onto mine. "You can trust me."

I slowly hung my head as Aster brought me to his chest, putting his arms around my back and shoulders, usually this kind of affection and warmth would put me off and I'd try my best to free myself, but I welcomed it, hugging him back.

"Bunny?" I whispered, Bunny slightly pushed me in front of him so he could look at me better.

"What is it Frostbite?"

Frostbite.

"I... Uh..." I stopped thinking, I couldn't tell him what happened. How could I? If I did, he could put the pieces together and figure out that I had feelings for him, and wouldn't talk to me again, I couldn't let that happen.

"I'm... Feeling better now, thank you." I found myself pushing him away, more emotionally than physically, I leaned away from him and walked towards my bed, resting my staff down on the covers.

"Oh, well, if you need anything else, let me know. Okay?"

"Okay..." I said quietly, I felt a lump form in my throat, I couldn't believe how vulnerable I was being, I knew I had to shut down and put up my emotional defenses before I blabbed anything else.

Aster walked out of the room and as the door closed, i felt the need to call him back as I felt an overwhelming sense of lonelyness over-wash my being, I felt as if that was the last time I would ever hug him and I pushed him away.

I felt tears streaming down my face, he can never know.
