Griff and Zuri: Love at First Sight

Jason POV

Griff and I are the only ones in the Grizzly cabin. I take this as an opportunity to befriend him.

"Hey man," I say. "How's it been going."

"Great!" he says smiling. "The girl of my dreams kissed me yesterday."

"And who was that?" I ask. I'm actually curious.

"Zuri," he says. Then he goes back to reading his stupid book.

"Oh."

I'm pissed off right now. I can't believe Zuri kissed Griff. I need to break them up.

Xander POV

Hazel's been coming after me ever since she found out Emma and I broke up. So I agreed to go with Jorge to go look for buried treasure or whatever.

Just something to get away from Hazel.

Jorge brought a shovel with him, so we can dig the holes. I felt too lazy to bring one. Once he starts digging, I relax against a tree.

Just as I'm about to doze off to sleep, he says my name.

"Xander," Jorge says. "So how's life now?"

"Now what?" I ask.

"Now without Emma."

I think for a bit. I miss Emma. I really do. Maybe this breakup was a bad idea. Maybe I should just kick Cassie out of camp and apologize to Emma for letting her stay.

But Cassie apologized. Emma was wrong. Cassie has changed. I think. I dunno.

"Xander!"

I look up at Jorge. "What?"

"I said your name like fifty times! Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine."

Then I leave.

Emma POV

Life without Xander sucks. I hate to admit it, but I still love him. I got mad over him letting Cassie stay after she kidnapped Zuri. Maybe Xander's right. Maybe she has changed. Maybe I overreacted.

But maybe Xander's wrong. What if she was faking it? Maybe she was lying. Xander is a jerk for letting her stay. But I still like him. I really, really do.

Life is complicated.
