Ya know how Michael loves rocks? That kinda got in the way when we got to Devil's Gate.

He wanted to pass through the center of the giant cliff things, and Naime wanted to see it too, but my father was advised to go around rather than right through it. Michael was disappointed, so while we were walking around it, I walked with him in silence for a while. Normally he did most of the talking and started the conversations, so I didn't exactly know how to start talking, so I just started to say words.

I don't exactly remember if this was what I said word for word, but this is close enough, and it's basically the same: "I'm sorry that we couldn't go through Devil's Gate, but think about this: after we get to Oregon and get our lives together, we can come back and explore it ourselves without worrying about anyone else's opinion."

He seemed to feel better after that, and he wasn't as gloomy, but he was still quiet. I wonder what's on his mind...

By the way, I just wanted to mention that Naime didn't find a romantic interested (called it).
