What I find that looks really bad and boring in trailers is when people say "Meet Rose" and they'll put a bunch of random clips of the actress portraying her together. That looks bad.
To introduce a character. I like to put 3 adjectives to describe them and flash the word and then show a clip related, not just any random clip.
For example: If I said "She's cheery" I'd put a clip of her laughing or smiling. But then if the next adjective was "deeply unhappy" I would put a sad clip of her, or a clip of a sad lonesome atmosphere.
