Chapter 20

I slumped against the wall holding my shoulder as it bled from five of six different places. I honestly couldn't tell how many injuries my shoulder had taken. I sighed, looking down at the Marines on the floor, feeling a moment of superficial satisfaction. "Captain!" I looked at a frantic Rosa. "That was far too reckless!" I smiled noticing she was getting used to calling me Captain.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." I stood up, trying not to wince at the pain. "How many more?" I had already lost count of how many prisoners we've freed or how many Marines I've fought along the way.

"It seems this row is the last." I breathed a sigh of relief, starting to feel the blood loss. "We should hurry." I nodded noticing how she kept a close eye on me since I spoke with that Marine. I gritted my teeth and walked toward the next cell.

"You." I looked down at the lone pair in the cell. I couldn't help but feel on edge when I found myself staring down at the sibling duo. "You really think you can free us?" I knew what they meant by the fire that started burning in their eyes. It was the same question I had asked myself earlier.

"As long as you give the Marines hell." I smiled unlocking their cuffs. The girl was about to charge at me- which was what I had expected- but her brother grabbed her arm at the last second. I stepped back to check for more Marines as they had their mental discussion.

"Uh Captain?" I looked over o the cell Rosa was standing in front of with a skeptical expression. "I don't think we should release this one!" I rushed over, my eyes widening when I came to stand beside her. In the center of the cell, was a figure adorning chains and straps covering a sold 90% of his body. I say he because, from the parts I could see, the person was too rugged to be female. I stepped into the cell and picked up a clipboard that was hanging off the wall.

"The Barbarian?" The figure stirred at the sound of the name. "It says he is meant to head over to Impel Down." I frowned looking at the man strapped down to a human dolly. Why was this man going to the worse prison in the world? He must have been too difficult to handle her but to send him to Impel Down? "Looks like it's your lucky day." I unsnapped the first of many straps but when he heard his restraints coming undone, he started to tense. Was it from excitement? The cover over his face hell to the floor revealing a large, predatory smile.

"So who do I owe my release too?" His rough voice shook every nerve in my body, reaffirming my initial thoughts. This man was incredibly dangerous.

"The Marine's arrogance." I cut through the last of his bands, not having a key to unlock them. His large frame landed on the floor but though the ground didn't shake from his power, his aura intimidated me all the same.

"I should pay them back then." His smile grew as he stared off in a random direction; the white of his eyes told me what I just couldn't accept. How could this man have this much presence, this much raw power and be blind?

"In full." The man's laughter echoed through the halls and in a flash he was gone. My heart jumped out of my chest as his overwhelming power left the room and what little strength I had, left me.

"Captain!" I felt Rosa's soft paws catch me before I hit the floor. "We need to get back to the ship. You're going to have to carry the boy." I could hear her words but my brain just couldn't process the words. "You need to stay-" I didn't hear the next part because the world around me suddenly darkened.

"How did she get this badly injured?" I could faintly smell the salty scent of the sea but instead of feeling at ease like I normally did, I felt heavy. It was as if I was thrown into the water and left to drown.

"She took on the Marines that remained in the arena along with some of the fighters who refused to cooperate." I groaned feeling my shoulder being poked and prodded.

"Bring her to the doctor's quarters. The first thing is to remove the remaining bullets. The child will have to wait." I tried to open my eyes but it felt like they were super glued shut.

"It's dangerous to keep her in the same room as Logan. If anything goes wrong and he wakes up, he will go after her."

"She said you'd fix him! She gave her word!" I wanted to tell them to calm down but they didn't even notice me.

"I will tend to him but right now she is bleeding out in more places than I can clearly see. She-"

"He is a child! What if he dies when you're busy with-"

"Woah there!" My senses we on high alert when something landed on the ship, forcing it to rock dangerously. Was that a canon? "I don't know about you but I think that Captain of yours will die before you come to a verdict." I knew that voice. The presence alone was enough to tell me exactly who it was.

"Jack, take Scarlet to the medical room and start tending to her wounds. Riya, can you take the boy behind them and keep an eye on his breathing? If it changes, let Jack know immediately." I could hear the familiar draw of a gun. "Rosa I need you to keep an eye on Logan. If it looks like he's waking up kill him."

"N.... no." I groaned out trying to open my eyes again. "He... stays alive." I winced feeling the pain start to set in again. Why did it start up again? I looked over seeing the man I had saved from a trip to Impel Down. How did he find us? How could he even follow us? He was blind.

"You heard your Captain." I breathed out, trying not to laugh at his mocking tone. I don't think he intended to sound rude but he was too playful for his own good. Nicholas wasn't a fan of being toyed with or insulted and this man seemed to enjoy doing both. I hissed in pain when I was lifted but I stilled when I felt drops of water falling on my skin.

"You're such an idiot... Captain." I chuckled hearing Jack's unsteady voice but regretted it right away when the action moved my shoulder.

"I... guess that means.... you're joining my... crew?" I smiled not able to see his face but it didn't matter.

"It's a good thing I am. Who else will patch you up when you get kidnapped?" I shook my head letting my body relax now that I knew the danger had passed- not that there weren't a few unknowns on my ship.
