It had been two years since L had died. Through that time, you managed to graduate college, and slightly move on, trying to date other people and get yourself out there again. That being said, it was two years of pain and sadness, with you constantly thinking of what could've been if only something had been done differently.

Though....you suppose there was something good about the situation. At least L had a successor, and Kira had finally been caught after all this time. That's all he really wanted in the end...right?

However, the bad really did outweigh the good in this situation. Around a month after he had passed away, you found out that...You were pregnant. You knew that it was his child, and at the moment when you found out, you didn't know what to do. It was the last piece of him you had remaining. Sure, you might not have been ready for a baby, but carrying on his legacy could be possible...And you could have someone to keep you going, and proof that L lived.

But...there were complications. And well...you lost the baby before anything could be done.

You blankly think of this as you sit on the edge of your bed in the dull afternoon, staring out the window while you struggle to show any sort of emotion, even to yourself. You then sigh as you get up to look to the sky, seeing puffy white clouds freely float through the pale blue atmosphere, as if this world was anything other than death, destruction and pain.

Through all this time however, you managed to get your own place, and had a pretty standard and stable life. You had loving and caring friends that checked up on you constantly to make sure you were still doing ok, as they all knew this time of year was rough for you. But, you managed to get by fine.

Even if there was something so vital missing.

After standing there for awhile, you sigh again as you turn, figuring you would force yourself to go out for a walk, and maybe even a small visit today. Making your way to the silent kitchen, you open up one of the junk drawers to find a spare hair elastic, and while you were digging around, you happen to uncover the old recorder that L had left you so many years ago now. Getting lost in staring at it for a moment, eventually you close the drawer without having a second thought. It ran out of batteries a very long time ago now. You wanted to listen to it again just to hear his smooth and mellow voice once more, but that would require unscrewing the back and changing the batteries. Which you did not want to do.

"If you're still listening, please unscrew the back of this recorder and look inside....there's something for you there..."

His words ring in your head as you pause with your hand still on the little handle before you tie back your hair, before walking towards the door and grabbing your soft beige button down coat and a grey scarf. It was late autumn now, and you were silent as you walk down the stairs to your home and onto the street, seeing the multicolor leaves scattered across the cold pavement, as well as some fall decorations adorning shop windows and streetlamps on your way. The colours and cool temperatures reminded you grimly that today was...L's birthday.

Swallowing the lump in your throat, you walk into a small sweets shop, quickly buying a little box of chocolates along with some strawberry candies, trying to keep yourself at least half composed.

After leaving, you take a shaky deep breath as you slowly walk towards the cemetery a little ways across town, mentally preparing yourself to visit your boyfriend's grave.

Once you do get there, your grip on the small shopping bag tightens as you see the pristine white headstone in the distance. As you finally stop in front of it, you take a deep sigh as you sit down, blinking back tears.

"Hey Lawliet..."

You say gently, touching the cold stone lovingly before brushing away the leaves that had fallen on the small space before you. His grave was unmarked, and didn't have a name on it, but you knew that it was his. You could almost find your way to it with your eyes closed by this point.
