Chapter 7 – Bittersweet
“Your arms around me come undone, makes my heart beat like a drum.” Bittersweet, Ellie Goulding
~Quote of the chapter ~
“Because you speak to me in words, and I look at you with feelings.”
~Riley’s P.O.V~
The sunlight beamed through Austin’s window making me slightly open my eyes. As I slowly turned my face, I felt someone’s arm around me and noticed it was Austin’s. God how I wanted to lay there forever and tell him how much he meant to me. I knew he had his arm around me to comfort me but I wanted it to be more, to be more meaningful to him of course. Both you and I know that doesn’t stand a chance. I got out of his grip without disturbing his sleep and went into the kitchen.
Since I knew his house and was comfortable in it, I decided to make breakfast. I made the batter for the pancakes and precisely poured them into the pan. If there had to be one good quality of me it would of course be that I can cook. I was taught by my father before he left me and the rest of my family. I always wondered why he left and never called me, but hey at least I grew super close to my mother. I put that thought into the deep corners of my mind and continued cooking.

I tossed and turned in my bed until; I realized Riley was no longer by my side. I started to become worried until I smelled a tasty sent coming from the kitchen. I walked in to a familiar figure. I hugged Riley from the back and petted her head, making her jump a little.

When he snaked his toned arms behind me and petted my hair, I swore my heart was about to flat line. It’s surprising how just on person can give you three million emotions.
“Good morning, sleepy head.” I stated.
“Good morning Riles! Whatca cooking?” He questioned.
“Pancakes and bacon”
“YUM, my faves!”
I turned the stove off and proceeded to get some plates from the cabinet. I was going to reach for a mug but I couldn’t reach, so Austin got up and easily grabbed the mug.
“Thanks.” I muffled. Realizing Austin has been shirtless this whole entire conversation.
“Anything for you shortie,”
“Hey! I am not short I am fun sized.”
I made his plate and poured him some coffee. As we ate our breakfast, we exchanged some type of words.
“What do you wan to do today?” Austin asked.
“I don’t know” I honestly said.
“I was thinking we can go roller-skating.”
“Are you serious? Do you want me to break a limb?” I said with a sarcastic laugh at the end.
“I can teach you, you know. Please!”
If you think saying “no” to a puppy face is hard. Try Austin’s lip biting and batting his eyelashes with his hazel stones underneath.
“Fine, but if I fall you better not laugh.”
“Ok…maybe just a little...” He chuckled.
I was walking home to change and get ready to go roller-skating. I went to my house, said hi to my mother and quickly took a shower. I decided to wear Victoria Secret yoga pants and the matching sweatshirt, with my hair in a messy bun. Since I dint look so put together, I put on some basic makeup. Such as winged eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. I checked my phone and noticed I had two text messages.
To: Riley
From: Austin
Hey I am outside your house ;)
(2nd text message)
To: Riley
From: Unknown
The closer you get to Austin the more you’ll regret it. Watch out Riley, I am watching you. I can make your life a living hell.
Surprise! Surprise! Who could that possibly be? I got up grabbed my phone, keys and my credit card and quickly made my way to Austin’s car.
“Hey!” Austin said enthusiastically.
“Hi.”
To be honest I was scared. I was scared as to what Blair could tell Austin. What if he hates me? What will he think of me? Wow, you’re an attention seeker, you have to make out and use your sister’s boyfriend to get attention. I constantly repeated these words in my head. The worst part was Austin had become my best friend and my feelings for him grew more and more each day. I just hoped that my love for him would be like a flower, strong enough to last sometime but not forever. Suddenly I found a voice in my head that whispered “You are such an attention seeker, slut, whore, etc...” The saddest part was who it was coming from. Austin.
“Earth to Riley” he said waving his hand over my face.
I pushed my collective thoughts away. I prayed that they would be hidden far away in this dreadful mind of mine.
“Yeah.” I replied.
“We’re here, come on!” Austin said.
I made my way out of the car and into the roller-skating place. Being the gentleman Austin is he paid for me and politely handed me my shoes.
“You should consider yourself lucky mister; I would have never done this wioth anyone else.” I said with certainty.
“I no, I no. Come on.”
He reached for my hand and I accepted it. We were now in the rink and I can promise you I was scared as to how I was going to look after this experience. I was holding onto the rail with my dear life until someone yanked me with them. I spinned around to face the person who had a tight grip on my waist.
I could feel his cool breath on my face, the goose bumps on my arms. As we both leaned towards each other I could feel the blood in my veins stop. I couldn’t do this because I knew all to well how it would end. I threw my head back and turned to the other direction. His arms around me came undone and all I can say was that It was bittersweet.
