Chapter 24

Merlock (Mermaidlock) - Part 3

The morning light was bright as it shone through the baby blue curtains in John's room. The sandy haird boy rolled onto his side and squeezed his eyes shut. He really didn't want to get out of bed.

He rolled over again and sighed. There was no way he was falling asleep again and judging by the brightness of the light it was past mid morning any way.

John slid out of bed and dressed himself. A pair of black shorts and a plain blue shirt with a brand logo on the left. He looked decent.

John ruffled his hair and sat at his small wooden desk. He reluctently picked up his mobile. He had two messages.

I'm sorry I left.

Tell mum and dad I'm ok, I'm with Klara.

They were both from Harry. John put his phone down and put his head in his hands. Why couldn't everything just be simple?

John rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands and picked up his sketch book. He opened it to his latest drawing and began to add colour. Golds, yellows and sunset oranges. Blues and greens, browns and blondes, pinks and tan.

John didn't feel like eating that morning, all he wanted to do was draw. Draw this gorgous creature.

He found it strange how he though of Sherlock as beautiful. He was a guy, if you could even call him that. He was a mermam though, so John simply brushed it off as awe.

It was much the same for Sherlock. He lay in the cave on the cool rocks and thought about his new friend. Weren't they odd things, legs? Sherlock sighed. All he had been able to think about was John, the human who he had almost drowned yesturday.

Sherlock sighed and flopped into the cool water. Perhaps it was simply because John was the first human Sherlock had made contact with. He had seen other humans before but actually speaking to one? It was quite the experience.

The time was 11:00am when John finally thudded down the stairs to the kitchen.

"Good morning sweetie!" His mother sang.

"Mornin'." John groaned. He couldn't wait any longer, he just wanted to see Sherlock!

John's father had gone to work today, he would be out till late so John was pretty much home alone since his mother was always at a friends house on Saturdays.

"I'm off out in a few." John said as he bit into an apple.

"Ok dear, be back by 7." His mother called.

John ran upstairs and grabbed his sketch book and pencil case. He packed his swimming trunks and a towel and stuffed them into a backpack. He trotted back downstairs and took another apple. Sherlock might like apples.

He slipped in his trainers and left.

He practically ran to the cove. He was early but maybe Sherlock was too, right?

He squeased into the cave and sat in the far corner and popped his bag next to him.

"Sherlock?" He whispered.

A golden tail swished in the water and a mousey haired boy rose out of the pool.

"Hello John." He smiled. John smiled back.

"I got an apple for ya." John laughed as Sherlock inspected the shiney red fruit. "You eat it silly!" John nudged Sherlock gently.

Sherlock bit into the crips fruit and made a very amusing face. John laughed again.
