Chapter 7
Noah
I woke up Saturday morning feeling hungover even though I hadn't even touched a drop of alcohol.
For a minute I laid in bed, staring at the ceiling with a completely blank and free mind.
I planned out the next few hours.
I'd shower, throw on some clothes, make my way to Coach's house for breakfast and film of last night's game, and then spend the rest of my day writing that English essay that was due on Monday.
As I thought about going to Coach's house, a sinking feeling spread in my stomach when I realized I'd have to see Harper.
And then the events of last night came flooded in.
I continued staring at my ceiling as my brain tried to process what had happened.
It couldn't be just my imagination that it was easily the best sex I'd ever had.
Certainly it was because of our history.
Of all the girls I'd been with, nobody knows me like Harper does.
Her body was so soft, her hands trembling like they always do when she's nervous.
"Oh fuck." I whispered when the realization hit me that I'd have to see her at Coach's house.
Why did we think that sleeping together would get rid of our problems? We still were going to be awkward around each other. It was still going to be painfully obvious that we have history.
My lips tingled when I thought of last night. I traced my finger from my ear down to my collarbone, remembering her lips against my skin.
Then I sat up straight, my heart pounding.
I was acting like a girl the day after she lost her virginity.
Was Harper feeling anything like this?
Probably not.
I'd find out when I went to coach's house.
Thanks to my little trip down memory lane, I forced myself under a cold shower, not wanting to show up at Coach's house in any sort of predicament.
"Where are you rushing off to?" Uncle Ryan called as I walked down the hall towards the front hall.
"Coach's house for breakfast!" I called back.
"Listen we've got to talk about that! Since his daughter is the girl that everything happened with, your aunt and I don't want you spending too much time around there." Uncle Ryan said, appearing in front of me as I tried to leave the house.
I froze, my stomach sinking.
This day was just full of twists and turns and it was barely eight.
"What?" I asked quietly, not wanting to show how ridiculous I found that.
"Listen, we just want you to be careful. And we don't want to have to bring this up to your parents." Uncle Ryan said softly.
I pushed past him, my heart pounding in my chest as I walked to my car.
I'd completely forgotten that I told him that yesterday.
Why was I so stupid?
Coach's front door was wide open and I heard the noise of the football team as I walked up to the house.
"Well look who finally decided to show up!" Coach yelled over the noise.
I scanned the room, only seeing short hair and loud members of the team.
