•because he wanted to get revenge on those angels for them because they murdered his mother

•John's heading towards a hunt

•when he passes an angel crawling towards a river with a ball and chain wrapped around his leg

•John gets his crossbow and is about to shoot the angel when the angel says

•"If you're going to shoot me, then do it. These wounds will kill me anyway."

•John slowly drops the crossbow

•"Why are you chained?"
