I...I don't know what to say...

So I was outside doing some chores and I live across these neighbors I have known for awhile, but like a year ago or something, three new people moved in; a guy and it appears like his two sons and I was talking to his kids right when I was about to go inside and this happened.

"So, what do you want to be when you grow up?" one of the kids asked.

"I want to be an animator or if that doesn't work out, a musician," I answered.

"Ohhh, that's so cool!"

"Haha, yeah! But why do you want to play music when you can just listen to it?" the other kid asked.

I shrugged. "Well...it's just something I like to do."

"Oh come on! Give us a better answer!"

"Alright, alright, fine. I like playing music because I forget everything bad that's happening in the world and I just like making other people happy because of it. They forget what problems they're going through in life and have a chance to relax from it and stuff."

They looked at each other for a few seconds before they looked back at me. "Our mommy used to LOVE listening to music when she was crying or something," the smaller child said. "She told us the people who create music are the best kinds of people to hang around because they make us happy and take us into a different world or something when they talk or play music."

"And they make us want to come back for more because it's better than the world we live in," said the other child. "...I think she said that world is much more happier and the sun is always out and people are laughing and smiling when down here, we're always sad or mad about something we can't change or want to change or want to forget."

By this time, I didn't know what to say.

"But our mommy is in a better place now. She told us when we're sad or mad about something, just listen to the people who create music and enjoy everything about it because it's a chance for us to go up there and take a break from reality."

...these kids are like 6 or 7 years old and they know what they're talking about...

But omg, I can't think straight anymore and I'm rethinking my entire existence rn

Oh damn, I definitely wasn't prepared for that but holy crap, everyday from now on, I'm going to think why I chose to be a musician.

And what they said really screwed me up...
