Zzz... Zzzzz..*YAWN*... Oh, you’re back. Let me guess. You want to hear more, right? Well, I’ve got nothing better to do so you better settle in for this because a lot has happened since the last time we talked. Anyway, let’s get started.

The day started off pretty typical with me waking up and doing my morning workout. After my run,
I “borrowed” some money to get breakfast with. One thing you should know about Zeta, if you have money the shops will sell to you no matter who you are, which helps since I couldn’t eat any other way. I ate on the way back to my house. I call it a house, but it’s far from it, actually. It’s an old abandoned apartment complex with two floors. I’m the only person who lives there. The building has no running water, working heat, or electricity and because of this people avoid it. It’s not much, but it’s home. I live on the second floor of the building, so that way if anyone decided to try and sneak up on me I'd know.

When I got back I heard something upstairs, but it wasn’t something bad. It was crying. Someone was in my room, crying, and if I’m being honest hearing it almost broke my heart. It was filled with pain and sadness. When I got closer I realized that the person was speaking as well.

“Mommy... Daddy….help me….I..I… just want to go home.”

It was a girl and by the sound of it she was probably around my age, maybe even younger. I decided to uncover my eye so I wouldn’t scare her and crept over to the closet the crying was coming from. I got to the door and opened it. When I did the girl jumped out and started hitting my chest. It didn't hurt, but boy was she fast. I grabbed her wrists to stop her and try and calm her down.

“Hey, hey, calm down, it’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you, I promise.”

She looked up at me and I froze. That look…..a look of pure fear and helplessness. I’d seen it many times, but never got used to it.

“Don’t worry, kid. You’re safe here. I’m not going to hurt you, but I’d appreciate it if you’d stop hitting me, okay?”

I tried to put on a friendly face and it worked. She nodded her head and let her arms fall to her sides. Then she did something no one else has ever done to me before. She hugged me and started crying into my chest. Now keep in mind, most of my interactions with people are comprised of them doing something bad and me kicking their asses. That being said, I don’t really know how to show emotions other than anger or annoyance that well and... this is the first person that has been this close to me and when I say close I mean really close, as in can hear her heart beat close.

“Uh...I..It’s okay. I….I’ve got you. You’re safe, I promise.”

She didn’t say anything and after awhile she got quiet and her breathing slowed. I noticed that she fell asleep and took her to my room. I went to put her in my bed, which is just a mattress on the floor, and let her sleep. I put her done and went to lay on the floor, but again, she did something that no one else had ever done.

“Please stay with me. I’m scared.”

I looked back at her and saw that look again and I just couldn’t say no.

“I’ll sleep on the floor next to you, okay?”

“Nn..no, I mean...next t..to me.”

The look on her face gave it away, she was scared and needed a friend.

“Okay, fine, but just don’t freak out if you wake up before me, okay?”

(I read a lot of comics and that tends to happen in a lot of them)

“I won’t. I promise.”

I don't know why but the way she said that......it made me happy, really happy. Then I did something I'd never done before. For the first time in eight years I smiled, not a big one, but just enough for her to see it. Once again this girl caught me off guard with what she said next.

“You should smile more often, it looks better than that scowl you had.”

I just stood there and stared at her thinking

‘Who the hell is this girl?!’

After a minute I went and laid down next to her and noticed that she was shivering. I took off my hoodie and handed it to her. She looked like she was about to argue, but I cut her off.

“You can put it on and be warm, or I can put it away and both be cold. Your choice."

After thinking it over she took the hoodie and said thanks. I fell asleep actually feeling happy, happy I made an actual friend. Little did I know what would happen next or just how important this girl would be, to me, and the rest of the world.

Anyway, that’s about it for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Till next time. -Z
