Backstory: Before the Aliens arrived, Dylas had a family and a pet pomeranian. Dylas had to walk the dog and go the store in town. When he got back, his house and the whole neighborhood was in flames. He ran to his burning house and his family was lying in their own blood. Dylas ran away with his dog and never came back.
