I instantly ran towards the door, with all intentions to close it, lock it, and wait for them to pass, whoever they were, but I stopped myself, knowing that a locked door is a definite sign someone is in a room and that would only lead them into my room and right into their next victim, me. I ran to the window and threw it open, releasing the fire escape, knowing I only had minutes until they finally made it to the 3rd floor, my floor. The fire escape finally released and made a noise as loud as the gunshots, if not louder. I threw a jacket onto the fire escape, hoping it would fool anyone who came into my room that I made a run for it down the fire escape. I ran back to behind the door and opened it as widely as I could, tucking myself in between the wall and the door, hopefully unable to be seen.

As soon as I got behind the door I heard stomping footsteps of someone running down my hall, and then I heard screaming.
