DIVINATION
I'm perfectly incomplete,
I'm still working on my masterpiece
(Masterpiece by Jessie J)***
Fortunately, I wasn't left out with our Herbology lesson. Of course that's because it doesn't require any use of wands, so I was safe in that area. Professor Mully only made us use hand gestures and strategies to kill those deadly Beenie weeds. After class, Natalina and I were about to head up to the Great Hall when someone shouted,
"Hexomentra!"
I searched the origin of that voice and found several students standing under the shade of a tree. They were crowding to see something. Natalina pulled my sleeves and whispered, "Smells like trouble. We better leave, Aza."
Trouble. I've been dealing with it since I turned eighteen! How worse could it be, anyway? The next thing I knew, Natalina was calling my name as I ran towards the scene. My curiosity is getting the best of me again, but can you really blame me?
When I finally managed to peek through the crowd, I almost cursed when I saw that same boy from before. He was smoothly leaning against the tree while an outraged brunette glowered at him. They had their wands out and an owl was perched on the ground.
The brunette spat, "Always the attention-seeker, huh? What the heck are you playing at, turning my owl into a Beenie weed?!"
He turned an owl into a Beenie weed? Suddenly, I remembered Aunt Ruella transforming our lampshade into a bullfrog and that made me gape in understanding. Magic, of course. How could I possibly forget that magic runs in every aspect here in MidWorld? Or atleast that's what I've read from one of the books auntie gave me yesterday.
The blonde yawned, looking genuinely bored.
"I don't get you, Erland. You should really be thankful that I took interest in that cheap and filthy pet of yours."
The guy, Erland, went red with anger. I noticed the green eagle crest he had on his robe. A Chisslewing, I thought and watched with horror as he pointed his wand at that arrogant blonde guy.
"You'll get what you're asking for, Clintwood! Armacria!"
My eyes went wide with that familiar incantation. It was the same spell Professor Bonks used in Charms earlier! A surge of blinding light appeared at the tip of his wand. But before it can even make contact with blonde guy's face, someone casted the counter spell,
"Deflectura!"
And just like that, the light vanished. We all turned to who casted the deflection charm and saw Lincoln angrily striding towards them. His House prefect badge shone brighter than usual, or was it just the sunlight? Lincoln Walters glared at the two students.
"You two should know by now that it is strictly prohibited for students to use magic in such petty fights... Especially you, Mr. Clintwood." He shot a warning look at the blonde.
"Aza, let's get going.. We don't need a fair share of Lincoln's angry fit." Natalina came dragging me away from the scene and soon enough, we were walking down the halls as if nothing happened.
I fidgeted and stole glances from her.
"Hey, Nat.. Can I ask you something?"
"Yeah?"
"Who was that guy? The blonde, I mean." Yup. Damn this curiosity I have. He's been bugging the whole school since I got here and he really seems the notorious bully type of guy, but I still don't know his name. Natalina sighed and answered,
"He's the biggest trouble-maker Liondalle's ever had. Matt Clintwood. Unfortunately, he's in Nickerfoxes. He's a second year student like us, but his abilities are a little more advance."
I nodded, "a little more advance, huh?"
Natalina shrugged and pulled me down to sit when we reached our house's table. Food popped out of nowhere and saucers came flying by.
"He's a pureblood. I guess it's natural for him to be a little different."
Pureblood? That amazed me. I remember what Beau told me about half-bloods and purebloods a while ago. Lucky bastard. I wonder what it feels like to be a pureblood..
I was in deep thought when someone sat down beside me. It was Beau. He summoned an apple from a bowl and munched on it. Natalina gave him an annoyed look.
"I thought you were in Applied Spells?"
Beau's dark colored eyes lightened up at the sound of Natalina's voice. A genuine smile graced his lips. "You should really stop that hobby of memorizing my sched, Nat.. Honestly, do you like me that much? Oh, and Professor Fumes has a meeting with the ministers."
Natalina nodded and lowered her gaze, blushing.
I exchanged looked between the two of them and shook my head in understanding. I have to admit, they really have some chemistry. After finishing my loaf, I stood up and jogged towards my next class. Divination's class room was the easiet to find. I just had to climb all the way up several flights of stairs. At the very end, a large wooden door magically appeared. The golden plate on it read: Divinatio, Prof. Wilborn Gin. Hesitantly, I knocked on the door. I almost jumped when it flung open and revealed a dimly lit room.
My eyes shot upward. Damn..
"The ceiling's bewitched to look like a mixture of colored lights."
When I turned to see who spoke, my eye narrowed in on a certain blonde. Matt Clintwood. I instinctively took a step backwards. "What are you doing here?" He gave me a coy smile. "We're in the same class, Sterlings. Why else would I be here?"
I wae about to retort when a lean, and old man wearing dark blue wizard robes spoke,
"Clintwood, that's enough. Miss Sterlings, you may now take your seat."
I nodded and sat down at the back of class. Professor Gins introduced himself and started his discussion on stellar and planetary movements, all leading up on how to predict one's fate by knowing what heavenly bodies aligned based on the date of your birth. I was all ears when a paper plane suddenly flew past me and went out the window. My eyes followed it's direction since I was the only one sitting besides the circular stone window.
There's something beyond the the forest.
Something that seems to stretch out in the horizon. I squinted my eyes and furrowed my eyebrows. Is that a wall?
"Miss Sterlings, tell me.."
I immediately sat up straight and met Professor Gin's eyes when he approached. He smiled meaningfully at me and asked, "Do you happen to be born on the 21st Day of December?"
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Slowly, I nodded, confirming Professor Gin's theory. I saw the old man's eyes glimmered behind his spectacles and he merely gave me a smile as he turned and murmured, "Interesting."
Everything went back to normal after that---well, if my classes could even be considered normal. I heaved a sigh and wondered what was that all about..
