Today was the day I found out that I could breathe underwater. My sister, Abby, had pushed me in by accident and I fell in.
"Kendall!" she shouted.
"Are you okay?"
Usually underwater I'd be gasping for breath. But I was swimming like a fish. I held my breath. I glided in the water. Then I tried to move my legs.
I couldn't move. I was paralysed from the waist down. My legs were numb. I turned round slightly and saw a glittering blue and green tail. Wait. A tail?
I heard disembodied voices.
"Kendaaaalllllll!"

I coughed and spluttered as I woke up.
"She's okay!" said Abby. I sat up, looking down at my tail. Only instead of a tail I had legs.
"Where did my tail go?" I asked.
"What tail?" My mum asked me.
"I had a mermaid tail. It was a glittering blue and green tail."
"She must be imagining it." said Abby, laughing.
"I'm not."

I dreamt about being a mermaid that night. In the dream, I was in the sea and I was swimming so fast. Then I woke up, my heart pounding.
