Johns "Great Loss"

Okay so everyone knows when Sherlock did his Best Man speech he said that John had been in war, suffered injury, and had great loss?

He also said he was so sorry about that last one.

What was that great loss?

I'm sorry, but as I was thinking about that I thought "maybe they're talking about the Cluedo game. Sherlock STABBED the board."

Then I remembered the Fall.

I like the more humorous take on it because I'm imagining Sherlock, Lestrade, Mycroft, John, Mrs. Hudson, and maybe a couple other people all trying to play Cluedo or Clue and everyone watching the Holmes brothers play.
