Ruby picked up Sapphire as gently as possible, sat her on her lap, and moved her bangs away slowly, fingertips brushing against seemingly every strand of hair until she could see her eyes. One sky blue, one glossed-over glass. Both eyes gazed at Ruby in passion and a bit of fear. Sapphire had just told Ruby the one thing that she had yet to say, the one thing she was afraid of admitting, so she was bound to be terrified. Ruby cupped her cheek, kissed it, and then whispered in a loving tone into Sapphire's ear.

"I need you more."

Sapphire gasped quietly, shivering a bit at the words. She had always thought about how she needed Ruby, but never about whether Ruby needed her. She turned to look at the taller girl's face and stared at her, her eye tearing up. The shorter girl pulled her in for a kiss, Ruby going along with it and putting in as much care and love she could put in. They stayed like this for a few minutes until one of them (they couldn't remember who) deepened it, practically begging for more. They went from sitting up to laying down, Ruby on top of Sapphire, then vise-versa. Either way, they were doing this. There was no way that they wouldn't. Sapphire had been bottling up her feeling for Ruby for over seven months, and now it was overflowing, gushing out of her system and showing in her actions by this very moment. They kissed and bit, scratched and gasped, gripped onto and just overall let go.

Ruby woke up the next morning, sore and exhausted. She looked at the fragile girl sleeping next to her. Ruby could swear that she was made out of blemish-free porcelain rather than human flesh. Her features were smooth, eyelashes naturally curving in the most gorgeous way, lips always a soft mocha-color that seemed as if they were painted on instead of being their true tone. Ruby studied these little perfections in the entire perfection that was her Sapphire almost as if she would never get the chance to see them again. She etched a mental image of the innocence that Sapphire's face portrayed, refusing to ever forget what she looked like. Sapphire looked as innocent as a church girl, but Ruby knew better. If anything, last night permanently confirmed this for her. Either way, she chose to respect the girl, not letting her dirty thoughts change her view on Sapphire. To her, she was perfect, even with her different eyes and rare bursts of powerful emotion, then nothing. Ruby loved her enough to not give a damn about that, as should the rest of the world, but that wasn't the case. Not with Sapphire. The world had done her so much wrong, and Ruby wished she could have met Sapphire before they ever hurt her. But that didn't matter anymore because Ruby was hellbent on making sure no one ever insulted her or made her Sapphire cry. She was going to protect her.

But nothing could protect either of them from what was going to happen in the next few hours.
