{2} Stupid Girls, Street Lights, Storms, and Sleepovers

Mumbling curse words to myself I checked my phone for what had to be the thousandth time since I set out into the darkness. I'd spent the last two hours walking around in the pouring rain looking for the stupid bronze-haired girl who had decided that she wanted to run out of the house in a fit of anger during a storm. My clothes were soaked and my water-logged hoodie did nothing to protect me from the biting wind. It wasn't quite winter yet, but it was far from warm. I glared up at the dark sky as if it would stop the large drops of water from plummeting towards me.

My phone vibrated with a group message asking if anyone had found Leaf yet. We all responded with negative answers, groaning once more I turned the corner and almost screamed in relief when I spotted a dark figure sitting beneath a street light. It had to be her, there was no doubt in my mind she was the only one idiotic enough to be wearing shorts and a t-shirt, while sitting out in the dark in this horrendous weather. Her arms were crossed over her knees which were pulled to her chest as she stared up at the night sky as if it held the answers to all life's questions. Pursing my lips, I made my way over to her. She didn't even bother to look at me as I stopped at her side. Her now muddy clothes were drenched and clinging to her slender body like a second skin. The wind howled around us, causing tendrils of her reddish-brown hair to dance around and whip her in the face. Her face was a bright shade of red because of the cold air. As freezing drops of water continued to assault her sodden figure I couldn't help but notice her brown eyes were bloodshot telling me that she lost her fight to suppress the tears I'd seen in her eyes when she left my house earlier.

"Hey." Her quivering voice was so soft I almost missed her finally acknowledging my presence.

I stared at her, not knowing what to say. What was I supposed to do in a situation like this? Did I comfort her, or demand she get up and come back to my house so her psychotic brothers didn't burn the neighborhood down in their search for the missing girl sitting before me. Grimacing I glanced around the abandoned road before taking a seat next to her. She didn't take her eyes off the angry sky as the wind continued to scream around us angrily. We both sat in silence until I attempted to gain her attention. "Everyone's out looking for you."

Her dark eyes finally met mine before giving me a tired smile. "I'll go back in a little while." She decided with a small shrug before placing her chin onto her folded arms and letting more tears fall. I watched her silently, my stomach constricting painfully as I sat helplessly. This was new for me, I didn't comfort people, the only girl I had ever really seen cry was Bianca, and on the rare occasion she did it was Holden that provided comfort, I just did my best to stay out of the way. More often than not I was the cause for the tears, rather than the solution.

"You're stupid," I grunted out finally as I watched her body tremble in the cold. Instead of getting mad like anyone else in her position, she just let out a soft laugh.

"Your probably right." She agreed. "Why are you out here?"

I raised my brow. "Are you serious? You screamed at your brother then ran out in the middle of the night during a storm. When I said, everyone was out looking for you, I was including myself."

"Oh. I didn't mean to cause any problems." Her usually confident voice wavered. There were a few minutes of silence before she looked at me with a sad smile. "Holden doesn't hate me, does he?" She asked. I could easily hear her panic and shook my head.

"No, he's worried actually. He's the one who sent me out to look for you." I admitted.

"That makes sense, I was wondering why how you got suckered into looking for me."
