Pt. 6
"How long has this gone on, young man?" Kendall's mom demanded, standing in the doorway. Mrs. Schmidt wasn't very tall but she could scare the hell out of you when the time was necessary and now was one of those times. Kendall and you exchanged glances before Kendall answered. "I swear this isn't what it looks like! We were just talking!" He said. "Oh really? I don't remember the definition of talking including kissing." She snapped. Oh god, you thought. "How long have you two been dating? Or we're you planning to have a quickie and never mention it again?" Mrs. Schmidt asked. "Mom!!" Kendall exclaimed. "This - we - I - we weren't planning on sex, God! We were only kissing!" Kendall said. Kendall's mom softened a little. "How long has this been going on?" She asked. Kendall looked down and played with the carpet with his foot. "A year." He answered quietly. "A YEAR??" His mom exploded. "How did you go around for a year without anyone figuring it out?? Wait - does anyone know?" His mom exclaimed. "No one knows, Mom. And it needs to stay that way!" Kendall insisted. "Oh, no. I don't care if you tell the town, but her parents have got to know. Tonight." Mrs. Schmidt ordered. You sighed and slightly rolled your eyes. Telling your parents wouldn't go smoothly you knew. "Go down in the living room; you two aren't going to be alone anymore." Mrs. Schmidt said. "Mom, I'm not two. I can make my own decisions!" Kendall whined. His mom gave him a look. "One, you're living under my roof. Two, she is a minor and I am not having you get in trouble for dating a minor. Three, you're whining like a two year old." Mrs. Schmidt shot back. Kendall glared at her but did as he was told with you following behind him. "While you two are on your way down, you can help unload groceries. That's why I came upstairs in the first place. Wasn't expecting to find you and Isabella kissing." Kendall's mom said walking down the stairs behind you two. After you and Kendall helped unload groceries, you sat on the couch awkwardly for awhile not speaking. Finally you couldn't take it anymore. "I'm going to go home and help my parents get ready." You lied to Kendall, loud enough for his mom to hear. You quickly said goodbye and left. When you got into your house, you went up to your room and sat on your bed trying to come up with a fool-proof way to tell your parents. There was no way Mrs. Schmidt would forget. She would certainly tell Mr. Schmidt before the cook out. You weren't sure how he'd react to the news but you hoped he'd be happy or at least ok with it. You kept glancing at the clock nervously dreading each minute that passed. Finally it was time for the cook out to start.
Pt. 7
You walked out of your house carrying the burger meat and hot dogs for your dad to start grilling. You sat down at the table as the Schmidt's came through the gate. Everyone greeted each other happily as you and Kendall looked at each other frightened. He awkwardly sat down next to you. "How are we going to do this?" He whispered. "I don't know." You shrugged. "Maybe you should tell your parents. I don't think they'd take it as well if I told them. I want this to go as well as possible." Kendall continued whispering. He stopped and looked up. You followed his glance and saw his mom looking at you two with an eyebrow raised. "Ok." You squeaked. Kendall looked at you and laughed. "Bella, my mom isn't going to kill you. She just needs to get used to the idea." He said smiling. "Easy for you to say. You don't have to say anything." You said rolling your eyes. "What did your dad say?" You asked, changing the subject. Kendall shrugged. "Not much. He seems ok with it. I think he just wants to make sure your parents are ok with it." Kendall explained. You nodded. "That's good. I guess. God, I wish I didn't have to do this." You sighed, sinking in your seat. Kendall smiled and patted your hand. "Just get it over-with, Bella." He said. Soon the burgers and hotdogs were served and everyone was talking. Mrs. Schmidt caught your eye and gave you a little nod. You squirmed uncomfortably in your seat knowing what she meant. "Um, guys?" You started kind of hoping no one would hear you. Unfortunately there weren't too many people so everyone stopped. "Yes, Isabella?" Your dad said. "Uh, I - I have something I have to tell everyone." You said. Your parents looked at each other funny and then back at you. You bit your lip and took a deep breath. "Kendall and I are dating." You finally admitted. After your dad finished choking on his food he asked "How long?" "Over a year." You squeaked. Now your dad spit out his drink. "A year??" He exclaimed. "Yeah?" You shrugged sounding a little unsure. The parents began talking about how they felt about it and discussing if it was a good idea or not. Mr. Schmidt surprised you with some back-up. "I think it's a good idea. That's how I found my love; she was my best friend first." He said kissing Mrs. Schmidt on the cheek. Both you and Kendall shot him a grateful look. Soon the conversation turned to Kendall's potential acting gig. You and Kendall cleared the table and did the dishes. "I'm so glad that's over." You sighed. Kendall laughed and quickly kissed you avoiding the parents' sight. "It wasn't that bad." He said. "Shut up! You just sat there!" You laughed slapping his arm. Soon the Schmidt's left and you laid on your bed thinking about the day.
