Pt. 16

Jackson stood in between the house and the fence holding a pistol. "Thought you'd make fun of me in front of everyone and get away with it? No one gets away with that." Jackson said menacingly glaring at you and Kevin. You glanced at Kevin out of the corner of your eye quickly. He looked terrified for a second but then put on a brave face. You saw something move and slowly looked over. It was Mrs. Schmidt standing off to the side of the window so Jackson couldn't see. She pointed to her hand showing that she had a phone. You had forgotten that Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt were both home already. You weren't sure if she had called the cops yet but you knew that if she hadn't already she would soon. "Jackson, come on. What are you doing, man?" Kevin asked, trying to diffuse the situation. Jackson was now pointing the gun at Kevin instead of the ground. "Jackson, don't!" You yelled. "Isabella! Hush!" Kevin hissed. You ignored him. "Do whatever you want with me. Just don't hurt him." You begged. Jackson snorted. "Killing him and scarring you for life would be a better punishment than me getting you to myself." Jackson said cold heartedly. Tears welled up in your eyes. Jackson was right; losing Kevin and seeing him shot right next to you would be far worse than anything Jackson could do to you if you just slept with him. "Please, Jackson! Going to jail isn't worth this." You pointed out, trying to get him to listen. "Shut up." Jackson ordered. You glanced at the window to see if Mrs. Schmidt was still there. You could Mr. Schmidt hugging her and your heart sank. They would be so devastated if their son was executed in their backyard. "Jackson, just put the gun down and we can talk through this. You don't need to shoot anyone." Kevin offered. "Shut up; I'm going to kill you." Jackson ordered putting his finger on the trigger. You were so panicked that you gagged and almost threw up. "Shhh, it's ok. We'll be ok. I promise." Kevin whispered, rubbing your back. You saw Mrs. Schmidt waving at the back window pointing to the front of the house. She meant the cops were here. Your heart started to race even more than it already was. What if there was a shoot-out? If the police tried to shoot at Jackson to disarm him, they'd hit Kevin or you if they missed at all. The front of the Schmidt's faced the north so the setting sun would cause the polices' shadows to give them away; they couldn't sneak up on Jackson. You felt Kevin grip your hand tighter. "Do whatever I say however I say it." Kevin whispered. You looked at him funny but agreed. "Run!" Kevin said as you heard someone yell "Go!"

Pt. 17

You heard yelling and two gun shots as you and Kevin ran and dove to the back door where Mrs. Schmidt immediately opened the door for you two then locked the door behind you. You and Kevin sat on the floor leaning against the cabinets catching your breaths. You heard the yelling continue. "Do you think they killed him?" You asked quietly, shaking. Everyone bit their lip and shrugged. "I don't think so." Kevin said in between breaths. He scooted closer towards you and wrapped his arm around you in a hug. You rested your head on his shoulder still breathing heavily. You heard a knock on the door and Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt went to answer it. Kevin stood up, brushed himself off and then helped you stand. You looked to the front door to see who was there. The Schmidt's had let in several policemen who sat in the living room. Mrs. Schmidt motioned you and Kevin over. After everyone sat down the cops began to talk. "I'm Officer Meekins." One female officer said introducing herself. "This is my partner Officer Broadbent. That is Officer Haley and his partner Officer Rodriguez. We have some questions we'd like to ask you about what just happened. We're going to take everyone into separate rooms and interview each of you." Officer Meekins explained. She paired everyone up with an officer and everyone found a separate room to go into. You were paired with Officer Haley. He was really nice and funny but professional at the same time. He asked you about the events leading up to what had just happened and your side of the story. When you were finished he thanked you for your cooperation and took you back to the living room to wait while the others finished their interviews. When everyone was done the police asked to speak to your parents. "They're out of town." You said. "Both of them?" The officers asked. "Yeah. They'll get back late tomorrow." You shrugged. "Where were you planning on staying?" Officer Rodriguez asked. "At my house. By myself. I've done it before." You answered. "Why don't we just have her sleep here until her parents return?" Mrs. Schmidt suggested trying to avoid any problems. The officers agreed since they wanted someone to be able to keep an eye on me. You agreed to sleep over for the next two days but hoped Mrs. Schmidt wouldn't actually make you sleep there. You felt it would be awkward with Kevin since you were dating his brother and you two had almost just died. Plus, you had never really liked sleepovers. After the police left Mrs. Schmidt sent you and Kevin over to your house to pack your stuff for the next two days.
