“Please understand my Reasons for not speaking today. I am Participating in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their allies. My deliberated silence echoes that silence, which is caused by anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toword building awareness and making a commitment to address these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today." “The Day of Silence is a student led national event that brings attention to anti-LGBTQ name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students take a vow of silence in an effort to address the problem of anti-LGBTQ+ behavior by illustrating the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBTQ students." This day takes place on Friday, April 20th (although this year it is on the 21st) and is a sad day for us all. This is a day for us to remember all of the LGBTQA+ people who died/committed suicide. May they rest in piece. We all need to learn that sadly this day wouldn't have come to be if not for the terrible actions made against the LGBT community. The death/ suicide rate for LGBT people is far too high. We need to make a change. This needs to end.

This year is especially important for me(Shadow Heart) and my friends because our friend committed suicide because he was bullied for his sexuality and how he dressed. Ever since then I have been doing all I can to prevent that from happening again and you can help. Even if it is something small. The littlest thing could make the biggest difference. Don't be one of those people who bully and harass us for fdressing like the opposite gender. For liking the someone of the same sex or for stating that you don't have any specific sexuality and you are just not into that. I am bisexual and the amount of times people come up to me and ask me how I can live with myself just because I am into males and females. They go up to my boyfriend and ask him how he can trust me cause I am not straight. That is what causes stuff like this. If you don't have a voice then you can't be heard. Stand up for all of the LGBTQA+ Teens and youths. Speak up and do your part. Spread the love. It won't just make others feel better knowing that they truly are cared about. But it will make you feel better too, knowing that you did a great deed. And helped make the world better.
