Turn Away

I'm texting a number that's been silent for years
And I'm still expecting a specific someone to answer.
I've been planning out everything I would say. Word for word.
Knowing nothing would come from it.
She left for a reason.
I need to turn away.

I've been obstinately gripping to memories of my old friendship
Constantly rehearsing what I'd tell her. Word for word.
Hoping that she'd answer.
I need to turn away.

She didn't think to say that she was  safe
And she wouldn't come back even if she wasn't.
Always too stubborn to surrender.
I need to turn away.

I've been planning out everything I would say. Word for word.
Though even if she picked up and listened, none of it would really be heard.
I need to turn away.

I'm texting a number that's been silent for years
And I need to turn away.
But I can't.
