You're best friends but one of you has feelings...

Louis - Another piece of paper hits you in the back of the head and you clench your fists. You turn in your chair to shoot daggers at him with your eyes, but he smiles goofily and raises a shoulder.

"Miss (Y/L/N)? Is everything alright?" Your teacher calls on you and you spin back around to face forward.

"Yes sir," you say, wanting so desperately to roll your eyes. He owes you for covering for him, even though he's your best friend you wouldn't hesitate to give him up.

You met three years ago and have been close ever since. Even if you didn't hangout everyday you were still two peas in a pod. Everyone knew that you and Louis were best friends. You were a perfect match at that; both silly, outgoing and addicted to mischief and fun. You've never met someone quite as good for you as Louis. When you first met you actually thought you'd end up dating as did everyone else. That never came around, though, and here you were.

Recently you've noticed he's been acting differently. You're usually fine with going a few days not seeing one another, but recently he's been wanting to see you everyday. He's been a lot nicer too, not poking fun at you or using you as the butt of his jokes. It's been nice, sure, but very different.

All period he's been throwing little balls of paper at the back of your head and hasn't stopped once. He's has the same silly smirk on his face and by now you wish you could just smack it off. Another piece of paper hits you in the back of your head and you turn around again when you teacher's not looking.

"You think this is funny Lou? Clearly I'm not having fun," you whisper harshly and his smile fades slightly.

"Yeah, but -"

"No, that's enough. I don't want to hear it Louis."

"Okay, but (Y/N) -"

"Stop! Just stop, okay?" You say a little too loudly.

Louis' smile disappears and his eyebrows pull together in a frown. His eyes snap up behind you and you turn around to find your teacher stood in front of your desk.

"Are we finished Miss (Y/L/N) and Mr. Tomlinson because I have a class to teach here," he says, his arms crossed over his chest.

You turn to look back at Louis who appears to be totally and utterly dejected. His dark blue eyes hold a pain you've never seen before and you start to think maybe you were being too harsh. Your chest aches, wanting to apologize and ask what this was all about but you're in the middle of class.

"Yeah," Louis says quietly, his eyes intent on you, "we're done."

With that, he pushes back his chair and leaves the room, leaving you confused and feeling guilty. You look up at your tea her who sighs and motions for you to follow him, grumbling something about you not paying attention anyways. You get up and follow him, looking up and down the halls. You catch sight of him turning a corner and you break into a run.

"Louis!" You call and he stops so you can catch up to him, his face blank and not holding any hint of a smile like it usually is. "What was that about?"

"You really don't know?" He asks quietly and you shake your head. He looks down at his feet and sighs. "If you had let me explain that you should open one of those papers, I wouldn't have to say this. Everything was written down, it would have been so much easier that way."
