FLASHBACK
BJ's POV
"Bianca wake up, it's time for school. You don't wanna be late on your first day of second grade." my mom said shaking me awake. "Five more minutes." I whined pulling the covers over my head. That's when she snatched the covers off and tossed them on the floor. "Hey!!" I exclaimed. "Should've gotten up when I told you." she said shrugging her shoulders and walking out of the room. I sat up and rubbed the crust out of my eyes. When I walked over to my desk I saw that my clothes were already laid out and grabbed a towel for the bath. When I got out, I put my clothes on and went downstairs for breakfast. "Ready for school?" My dad asked not looking up from the sports section of the newspaper. "No, but who still reads newspaper?" I stated. I couldn't see him but I could tell he was shaking his head. I quickly devoured my food and hopped in the car with my mom right on my tail. "Bye honey have a great day!" she called out when we pulled up in front of the school and I got out. While I was walking up the the school entrance I spotted four boys leaning on the wall of the building. They were just talking about random stuff until they caught me staring at them. I quickly put my hood in and rushed in. Three guys had their heads shaved while one had a Afro. He was a cutie, but by the look on his friends' faces they didn't like me too well and they were a bad bunch. I saw my best friend Bri walk up to me with a smile on her face. "Hey B." she greeted giving me a hug. "Hey Bri." I greeted back. "Hey do you know the four guys that are out there leaning on the wall?" I asked pointing out the door. "Oh yeah and they are a bad bunch. Who ever looks at them weird gets bullied for as long as they desire." she said making a look of nervousness come across my face. "Does that include girls?" I asked praying she would say no. "Especially girls....for some reason." she answered. That's when I started to panic, but tried my best not to let her see. When the four boys appeared I made a b-line for my classroom with Bri not far behind.
END OF THE DAY
"I'll see you tomorrow B." Bri said walking over to her car. I waved at her as she drove off leaving me alone. I saw three of the four boys I was staring at earlier come out the building and I tried my best to hide myself in my hoodie. I sat down on the grass and fiddled with my fingers until shadows appeared in front of me. I was screaming of fright on the inside trying to act like I didn't notice them. That's when one of them grabbed the back of my jacket and snatched my book bag off. "So you're the girl who was staring at us earlier today right?" one of the guys asked. He was a bit on the chubby side and was really dark skinned. I nodded my head not looking up at them. That's when another picked me up and grabbed my face making me look dead in his eyes. He had some muscle on him and had dark brown almost black colored eyes. "You look at us when we talk to you." he stated making his grip on my face tighter. "Please don't hurt me." I pleaded on the verge of tears. "Too late for that." he said with an evil grin. That's when he pushed me down snatching my jacket off. Then he stated kicking me as the others joined in. They ran away just as their friend walked out leaving me to laid out on the cold grass. I tried to bring myself together as they walked over to him with innocent smiles. "Sorry I'm late. The teacher held me back for some help." he explained putting his arms over the muscular boy. They shot me looks when the Afro boy wasn't looking. "So did you guys do what I said?" he asked which made my eyes grow big. He's the one that told them to attack me? I was saved by my dad's car pulling up beside me. I quickly got in and he drove off.
THE NEXT DAY
When I made it to school I looked down with my hood over my head. Not looking where I was going I bumped into someone. When I looked up I saw the boy with the Afro smile at me and I returned it with a death glare. "Hi I'm Jacob and you are?" he greeted holding his hand out for me to shake. I just looked at it with disgust. Without warning I slapped him making him stumble back. "What did I do to you?!" he shouted. "You know exactly what you did! The real question is, what did I do to you? I don't even know you!" I snapped before walking away to my classroom.
For the next three months I got bullied by the Afro boy's goons while he acted innocently like nothing happened. Every time we collide in the hallway he always ask me what my agenda is towards him. I always try to hide my scars from my parents to no avail and I just made up excuses like I joined a sport or something. But one day the afro boy named Jacob did something that changed my attitude towards him......
"Hey BJ!" one of the boys called out walking towards me. Here we go again. I turned towards them ready for my beat down. To save them the trouble I took off my book bag and jacket and held my arms out as they smirked. One of them pushed me down while the others stomped on me. After a minute into the best down I heard a voice, "STOP! LEAVE HER ALONE!" The boy named Jacob screamed pushing them away. He helped me up and placed me behind him. "What are you guys doing?!" he asked. "We're teaching her a lesson." The chubby boy answered in a obvious tone. "I know y'all moms taught you better than this." Jacob stated shaking his head in disbelief. "Well some of us aren't lucky enough to have moms thank you very much and our dads always told us to show the female that we are dominant. " the muscular boy snapped. "Look Jake you have a choice. It's either us or her." the other boy chimed in looking at me like I was a filthy creature. I knew what Jacob's answer was gonna be so I just walked off with my things.
Jacob's POV
I looked back at the girl as she walked off with her things them back at my friends or who I thought were my friends. "I chose her." I finally said and they looked at me with hatred and disgust. "I chose her." I repeated with a smile. "This isn't over." Ross the muscular boy stated before walking off with Brian and Travis. I walked over to the girl to find her peeling a orange. I sat close beside her and just watched. "You chose me?" she asked with a slight smile and I nodded. She leaned her head on my shoulder and sighed. "Thank you." she said breaking the orange in half and handing me one. "No problem." I replied. After a few moments in silence I held my pinkie out. "Friends?" I asked. "Friends." she stated looping her pinkie around mine. When my car pulled up I said goodbye and hopped in. "Hey honey how was school?" my mom asked. "It was good." I answered. "Where were the guys?" she asked. "We're not talking anymore." I replied. "But they're you friends. Why were you with that girl?" "Because she's my friend......my best friend."
