After cuddling on the couch with Jordan for a while I left and went back home. I got the feeling I could have stayed but I felt like it was a good thing that I went home and not take that next step yet. We shared a sweet kiss before I left and she told me to text her to let her know I was home safe. I had a great night with her and really all we did was sit in silence watching TV, well she was watching TV and I was watching her. I couldn't believe the ease in which we could be together without having to fill the silence.
It was late when I left, or early morning really and I stayed awake a while longer since I had to go in for midnights that night. I expected to have some texts from Lauren when she got home but by 4am I hadn't heard anything which probably meant she wasn't alone.
That night I was working with Jess. After last night's texts I wasn't sure what to expect. Her blatant jealousy used to be cute but if she was going to act jealous when she didn't want to be with me I was going to be more than slightly irritated. Jordan was working tonight too so I hoped that our paths might cross at some point.
I took my post at the desk waiting for Jess to arrive when I got a text from Lauren.
LJ: "Did you get home alive?"
"Yes I did, went to Jordan's first. What about you? Did you go home alone?"
LJ: "I did get home and no I wasn't alone."
"Did you catch this one's name?"
LJ: "I'm offended, I always know their first names. And this one is pretty awesome actually, her name is Vanessa and I'm seeing her again tomorrow night."
Now that surprised me it wasn't often that she went on a second date with anyone, let alone the next day, this girl must have really made an impression. I was about to answer when Jess came over. She wrapped her arms around me from behind and gave me a hug, "Hey Gorgeous."
I didn't know how to react to her arms wrapped around me but I didn't want to make it awkward so I just half hugged her back and turned to face her, "Hey Jess, how are you?"
She seemed a little upset, I rarely called her by her name, but I didn't think it would be a good thing to keep calling her 'Beautiful'.
She sat down next to me and smiled, "So how was your night last night? Did you pick up at the bar?"
I laughed, "I told you I wasn't. I left the bar not long after you text me." It wasn't technically a lie I did leave the bar but I didn't go home. But apparently she was still stuck on the idea of me picking up.
She seemed to let it go for now, although she got quiet and I still had no idea what to say so we sat and did some paperwork for a while. It was an awkward silence but eventually I heard someone approaching and when I looked up I was greeted with a smile. It was Jordan and just seeing her made me smile, "Must be my lucky day."
She blushed slightly and I noticed something in her hand, "What ya got there?"
She shook her head. "Oh right, I thought you might need this," she handed me my watch. I had taken it off last night while we were on the couch. "Shit thanks, I was looking for it all day. Thought I lost it last night."It suddenly realized that Jess was sitting next to me. Shit. Jordan seemed to see my realization and decided it was time for her to leave, "I'll talk to you later Vic, nice to see you Jess."
As she walked away I could feel Jess's eyes on me but I didn't turn to look at her, "So you and Briggs?"
This was a conversation I didn't want to have, I didn't want people at work to know that we were seeing each other. I especially didn't want Sarah to find out, she would just cause me more grief. And I didn't want to hurt Jess, but I didn't want to lie to her either. I didn't know what to say.
